Updates from the Team’s Web Pages

1. / Epsom Town team Working hard to deter Shoplifters
Shoplifters have been seen in Epsom town and on a few occasions we are happy to say we have been in the right place. However, there are always more of them that want to come to Epsom town. We are working closely with the stores and looking out for these undesirables. However, we would encourage you, the members of public; to make the staff know of anyone you believe is shoplifting. We do not ask you to challenge these people only report and come forward as a witness. In the end these people are affecting us all as the store puts upthe price of products to cover the thefts.
Surrey is one of the safest counties in the country. This is not just done by the Police it is also down to you to report incidents to the Police. We are committed to identifying, detecting and deterring shoplifters in our town to make it a safer place for the shop community to operate in and the greater community alike.
2. / New Team members
The North West team welcomes 2 new members to the team. PC Laurie Baughan and PCSO Sarah Soper. PC Baughan use to work in EpsomTown and has worked in Epsom for a few years so has a good knowledge of the area. PCSO Sarah Soper has moved across from Traffic which is her speciality. If you see them about please say hello.
PC O'Riordan is leaving the team but will continue to work in Epsom and Ewell as the Youth Intervention Officer. PCSO Ollie Wright is still working on the area.
The Cox Lane skate park is having its offical opening on 9th April 11-12.30am so come down and meet the new team.
3. / Cycle safe & secure this year!
With summer, hopefully, looming round the corner and the thoughts of getting fit in the new year well in full swing we are sure we will be seeing a lot more Bicycles out and about. Whether cycling to work or just down the road to the train stationwhere you canjoin the commuter crush into central London, at some point you are going to need to park your bicycle up somewhere.
Unfortunately where there are fancy, expensive bikes there are criminals lusting after them for quick cash. So why skimp outon securityfor your prized possession? Local officers, in partnership with British Transport Police, are on the look out for potential bike thieves at stations or the bike racks nearby, as too often we have had reports from commuters returning from work to find a void in the final leg of theirjourney home. Despite the Police presence you may see about, we can't always stop the opportunist thief which is where goodbike security steps in.

Before you think about setting off on a journey after reading this article you might want to take the first, easiest step to securing your bicycle... registering it. Take a look at BikeRegisterorImmobilise- they arequick, simple and easy but can help in a big way.
Lock it or lose it...
Say your bike is stolen, but you have registered it online. When Billy Bike-Thief takes in his new ill-gottencycle to a pawn shop to get a few quid for it, the bike flags up as stolen. Police turn up, arrest Billy and you get your bike back. Preferably though we want to stop Billy Bike-Thief before he gets to the Pawn Shop and that's wheresecurity helps...
Whenever you park up your bike, make sure you lock it. Lock the frame and both wheels to a cycle stand or a strong immovable object, like a lamp post.
Try to lock your bike in a busy, well-lit area. Preferably with CCTV coverage.
It’s important to use more than one type of lock, try a cable/chain lock and a D-lock. Thieves may carry something to quickly snip off a chain but not a D-lock or vice versa.
Make bike hard to move around when locked up by ensuring little room between the stand/post and the bike.
Locks can be more vulnerable when they are on the ground due to corrosion, so keep them off the floor if you can.
Keep valuables with you. Don't put them in baskets, bags or panniers.
4. / The South Team continues to grow ......
First there were Three then Two, then Three again and now Five. Your local team keeps growing and joining Lisa, Emma and Elena are PC 40620 Sam AL-JAMIL and PCSO Robin BONNICK.
This number increases our strength and allows us to provide you with more cover throughout the week.
Sam joins us on his first permanent posting from his initial Police training and brings with him a willingness to develop his Neighbourhood skills and a fresh approach.
Robin has for the past few years been a Roads Police Community Support Officer covering Epsom and Ewell so brings with him expertise in areas of Traffic and again an interest in trying something new and getting to know the South even better.
As a team we are keen to hear your views good or bad and want to work with you to make the area a great place to live. However we are finding our surgeries are attracting few of you to come and talk to us (I promise we don’t bite).
We're not promising we are the right agency for every query, or will solve every Crime in an hour (sadly The Bill and CSI set us up for a fall there).
But what we can promise you is we will listen to your concerns, act where we can or point you in the right direction where we are not best positioned to deal with the issue at hand.
Likewise if you think we have done something well, let us know so we can utilise it elsewhere or develop it further.
We have a number of regular surgeries all of which are advertised on this webpage and on posters in prominent pages around where the surgery is to be held.
We will be holding a Street Meet once a month and initially will hold them in areas that have come to our attention.
What we would like though is to encourage as many of you to engage with us as possible. So please please please drop us an email, give us a call or approach us out on the beat and tell us where you want us to be and when.
We will collate all the details and using the information either arrange different surgeries, different times or put your street on our list possibly increasing our number of street meets.
