*This year Christmas falls on a Monday, with the 4th Sunday of Advent on the previous day. The faithful should know that there exists the obligation to attend Mass for the 4th Sunday of Advent, and too, a separate obligation to attend Mass for Christmas (The Nativity of the Lord). To satisfy both obligations, a Catholic must attend two separate Masses.
A Catholic may satisfy the obligation for the 4th Sunday of Advent by attending an anticipated Mass (Vigil Mass) on Saturday evening, December 23rd OR attending Mass any time on Sunday, December 24th (including a Christmas Eve Mass). A Catholic, though, would also need to attend an additional Mass on either Sunday, December 24thor Monday, December 25th to satisfy the obligation for the Christmas Holy Day.
Because of the pastoral demands on the priests and other ministers, as well as the need to prepare the church space for the celebration of Christmas, parishes may choose to alter their Mass schedule for the 4th Sunday of Advent.
The Parish Office will be closed December 25, 26, 27 and January 1.
