- Inspiration – Renew a feeling of mattering among participants
The New Professionals Institute will focus on a sense of inspiration for participants the leaves a lasting impact regarding the fact that what Student Affairs does matters to students.
- Participants will leave the institute feeling a sense of something greater and a role in the creation of experiences and systems that support the success of students on our campuses.
- Participants will feel a connection to the profession of student affairs that inspires them as a part of something that supports and encourages students.
- Participants will increase their awareness around issues of systemic inequities and social justice on our campuses and within higher education.
- Connectedness – Embrace the institute and theregion as family
The New Professionals Institute will create lasting connections among participants and strengthen the sense of family within NASPA-IV West.
- Participants will leave the institute with a sense of connection to at least one faculty member
- Participants will connect to the NPI faculty and cohort through social identities and deep discussions around social justice and current events, ie. Ferguson.
- Participants will feel a connection to a sense of the cohort of the 2015 NPI
- Participants attending the conference will have a sense of and a visible reflection to the Institute.
- Professional Awareness – Embrace the profession of Student Affairs and a role within it The New Professionals Institute will enhance awareness of student affairs as a profession and engage participants in support and resources to continue the professional engagement.
- Participants will understand the history of NASPA and an overview of Student Affairs as a profession.
- Participants will be introduced to or increase familiarity with the NASPA/ACPA Competencies as a framework for learning more about how the profession operates
- Participants will recognize how their identities impact professional interactions on a daily basis.
- Participants will gain resources to further their education on the ways in which social justice impacts our work.
