Sociology – Spring 2017 – Homework
1/30/17 – Please write a five-paragraph essay. It should be typed and double- spaced. It is due tomorrow, Tuesday, 1/31/17.

Things I Want to Do in My Life
1/31/17 – The 5 – Paragraph Essay was due today.
Textbooks were given out and should be covered for a book check tomorrow.
I explained how we are to dissect the chapter, pulling out all terms first and
identifying them in our notes. Then, we will look at theorists (sociologists),
then the 3 main theories of sociology, and last, the Sociology of Sport.
For tomorrow, have your book covered and your terms ready.
2/1/17 – Book cover check. Then, we discussed terms. We will finish them tomorrow and begin theorists.
2/2/17 – We completed terms of sociology and embarked on the theorists.
Be sure to have the theorists completed for tomorrow.
2/3/17 – We discussed several theorists today. Plan on finishing these on
Monday, and then moving on to the Three Theoretical Approaches.

2/6/17 – We made it through most of the theorists today – just a few to go over tomorrow. So we will definitely be going into the Approaches. Be ready for that!
2/7/17 – We finished the theorists today and launched into the Approaches.

2/8/17 – We discussed the Approaches today. PLEASE NOTE: We have changed
the test date for Ch. 1 to Wednesday, Feb. 15. Our review will be Tuesday.

2/10/17 – We had an activity today. We will finish the chapter on Monday,
looking at the sociology of sports. We will have our review on Tuesday for our Test on Chapter 1 on Wednesday, Feb. 15. Have a great weekend!!!

(Five paragraphs: intro, three main points (the three approaches), and
conclusion (which includes the approach to which you feel closest and why))
***The paper should very completely define and explain, using examples, the three different approaches. At the end of your conclusion, you will decide on the approach you like best and tell why.

4/19/17 – We just about finished deviance as viewed through the Symbolic Interaction Approach.
4/20/17 – Hirschi’sControl Theory was the last thing we discussed. Tomorrow,
we will review that and move toward the third approach – Social Conflict.

4.21/17 – We finished Hirschi’s Control Theory and indeed the Symbolic Interaction Approach’s view of deviance. On Monday, we will review instructions for the Deviant Project.
