Continuous Improvement Work Plan

Amendment Guidance and Procedures

When is an amendment needed?

A CIWP amendment is needed when a school changes:

  • a priority; or
  • a milestone or set of milestones under one priority with budget implications $5000 or greater for non-probationary schools, or a budget implication of any amount for probationary schools; or
  • a milestone or set of milestones that substantially alter the school’s strategy for implementing the priority.

In some cases, professional judgment will be required in determining whether a change requires an amendment. Agood rule of thumb is that if the approving entity (LSC or Chief of Schools) believes this is a material change to the CIWP, than an amendment is needed.

Examples

Below are some examples of changes that may require an amendment. This is not a comprehensive list.

No Amendment Needed / Professional Judgment Required / Amendment Needed

  • During 1st quarter monitoring process, the school adds a milestone to its school leadership priority to establish the ILT schedule for the rest of the year.
  • The school changes the timeline for a milestone to start in the 2nd quarter instead of the 1st quarter.
  • The school changes the Responsible Party from the Instructional Leadership Team to the Assistant Principal

  • The school adds an additional set of milestones under their priority on implementing Common Core State Standards to have the ILT conduct a series of professional development seminars for the 4th grade & 6th grade team during 2nd quarter (budget implications less than $5000)
/
  • The school changes a priority to focus on implementing common core in math instead of literacy.
  • The school adds a milestone to hire an 8th grade teacher to reduce class size (budget transfer greater than $5000 needed to fund the position)
  • Under a priority focused on implementing Common Core literacy standards, the school changes a milestone around weekly grade-level team meetings to shift the focus of those meetings from developing units of instruction aligned to CCSS to focusing on student data analysis for assessments (little or no budget implications, but represents a significant change in strategy).
