BECOMING A RECOGNIZED STUDENT ORGANIZATION AT NDSU
Co-curricular activities are considered an integral part of the University's educational mission. Involvement in co-curricular activities contributes significantly to a student's personal development, intellectual growth, and social responsibility. Consequently, any group of students who have a common bond or interest is encouraged to come together and form a recognized student organization. As an officially registered student organization, each group must recognize its obligation to the educational advancement of its members, as well as to North Dakota State University.
BENEFITS AND RIGHTS OF RECOGNIZED STUDENT ORGANIZATIONS AT NDSU
· Listing in official University publications.
· Use of Memorial Union and other University facilities.
· Use of a faculty or staff advisor.
· Use of Inter-Campus Mail service.
· Participate in the Student Organizations Fair
· Eligible to apply for Student Activity Fee funding from the Student Government.
· Eligible to participate in Homecoming and other University-wide activities.
· Program planning advising from the Student Activities Office.
· Leadership Skills Advising from the Student Activities Office.
· Use of a mailbox in the Student Activities Office.
· Eligible to apply for desk and storage space in the Student Activities Office.
HOW TO BECOME A RECOGNIZED STUDENT ORGANIZATION
Organizing groups must email the Student Activities Office at with their intent to be recognized as an official student organization. The organization will use Blackboard as the official form of communication with Student Government and the Student Activities Office. Paper forms must be filled out and turned in to the Commission of Student Organizations such as the Anti-Hazing form, Volunteer Form, and the Organization Constitution (sample constitutions, Blackboard information and paper forms can be found at the CSO website: http://www.ndsu.edu/ndsu/sg/orgs.php.
Schedule a meeting with the Student Government Commission for Student Organizations by contacting the Commissioner for Student Organizations in Memorial Union 128, (701) 231-8460.
The Commission for Student Organizations will then make a recommendation to the Student Senate regarding the organization’s recognition.
New student organizations are usually granted Temporary Recognition for one year. Temporarily recognized student organizations receive all of the benefits and rights of fully recognized student organizations, except for the eligibility to apply for Student Activity Fee Funding.

7.1.7.1 The following information must be filed with the Student Activities Office.
(a) A registration form with the following:
- the name of the organization;
- a listing of officers and their signatures;
- the name and signature of an adviser, selected from the faculty or staff, or another designee as approved by the Student Activities Office staff; and
- the TriCollege/DualCollege Organization Registration Form (applies only to groups wishing to obtain or maintain TriCollege/DualCollege Recognition).
(b) A statement signed by local student organization officers giving assurance that there will be no illegal discrimination on the basis of age, race, color, disability, religion, gender, national origin, sexual orientation, or any form of discrimination in the selection of members or officers on a local level.
(c) A statement signed by local student organization officer(s) giving assurance that there will be no participation in any activities that could be considered hazing.
(d) A Request to Check Eligibility for Participation Form.
(e) A copy of the constitution. Constitutions shall be submitted for record every three years, even if no changes are made.
7.1.7.2 Registration information must be renewed annually and a list of officers must be submitted to the Student Activities office at the time of election or appointment of officers.
7.1.7.3 The membership, policies, and action of recognized student organizations will be determined by group members who are enrolled as students.
