The next LGPOA meeting will be held on Saturday, February 27th at 10AM at the home of Bo and Pede Fraser, 9020 Swinson Street (just past the north end of the Preserve).

Fire and EMS: The LGPOA Board at its January 23 meeting voted to donate $1,000 to LGIFR to help cover the expenses of the transition to the new LGIFR Board and the new LGIFR mission.

LGIFR, Inc is operating under its new bylaws which make all island property owners members of the corporation. Candidates for the new five-member Board of Directors have been solicited. Eleven islanders submitted their names by the February 15 deadline. The candidates are: Ernest Cooper and Glen Schroeder (District 1); Julio Lleras and Chuck Soderquist (District 2); Pede Fraser, Alan Sanchez, Barbara Travers, and Ron Watson (District 3); Bob Barrere and Don Oleson (District 4); and Fred Baruth (District 5). Candidate profiles will be posted on LGIFR’s website: www.lgifr.com at about the time you receive your ballot. Look for a ballot in your US mail in the next 2 to3 weeks. Ballots may be returned by US mail or brought to the general meeting of LGIFR which will be held at 10AM on March 27th at the Placida Beach Condominiums Clubhouse. Ballot results will be announced and the new board will be seated at that meeting.

One of the first orders of business for the newly elected Board of Directors will be to hire a professional chief. Housing will be needed for this person. If you know of anyone who has a house or condominium available for year round rental, please let LGIFR know (email: ).

While the new fire board is getting organized and looking for a professional chief, Charlotte County has provided five radios to LGIFR volunteers to help speed the County’s response to 911 calls from the island. These volunteers will be contacted by county dispatch when a 911 call comes from the island. Through radio contact, the volunteers will assist the county professionals in determining the nature and location of the emergency and will guide the professionals to the site.

Docks on LGI: As reported in previous Telegraphs, the LGI Advisory Committee has appointed a Dock Committee to work with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) to resolve problems with LGI docks. The full report of the first meeting was attached to the last Coconut Telegraph Special Edition. The next meeting of the Dock Committee with DEP personnel will take place on February 19th. The Telegraph will provide periodic updates as the Dock Committee’s work progresses.

There will be an Island Cleanup in March. The Telegraph will have the exact date and details next month.

The LGPOA plans to hold another Labor Day Weekend Fishing Tournament for 2010. Everyone enjoyed 2009’s event. See photos on our website: www.lgpoa.org.
