As President Obama's Supreme Court nominee comes under heavy fire for allegedly being a "racist," Judge Sonia Sotomayor is listed as a member of the National Council of La Raza, a group that's promoted driver's licenses for illegal aliens, amnesty programs, and no immigration law enforcement by local and state police.
According the American Bar Association, Sotomayor is a member of the NCLR, which bills itself as the largest national
Hispanic civil rights and advocacy organization in the U.S.
Meaning "the Race," La Raza also has connections to groups that advocate the separation of several southwestern states from the rest of America.
Over the past two days, Sotomayor has been heavily criticized for her racially charged statement: "I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life."
The remark was actually made during a 2001 speech at the University of California's Berkeley School of Law. The lecture was published the following year in the Berkeley La Raza Law Journal.

What does the Word of God say about the God-ordained roles of men and women ?
God's creation-order design is for men to be the heads of households (e.g., Ephesians 5:22-33),
to be the elders and pastors of churches (e.g., 1 Timothy 2:11-15; 1 Timothy 3:1-7; Titus 1:5-9),
and to serve as civil ministers / magistrates in civil government. It is not God's perfect will for
women to rule over men in the family, church, or civil government (including the armed forces -
and it is not God's will for women to be the warriors-soldiers in a society). When women are in
headship / rulership positions over men, it is a sign, judgment, and indictment against the men,
who are failing to fulfill their God-ordained roles. It is a curse upon everyone, men, women, and children. It is a curse upon a nation (e.g., Isaiah 3:12).

If confirmed for the U.S. Supreme Court, federal appeals court Judge Sonia Sotomayor would be the sixth Catholic
to sit on a bench that, before the current crop of justices, had featured only six Catholics in its entire history.
Little is known of the nominee's religious life other than that she attended Cardinal Spellman High School,
a Catholic parochial school in the Bronx, and Catholic scholars and jurists differ over how much their religion
should influence their judicial decisions, even on such hot-button issues as abortion and gay marriage.

Besides Justice Scalia, the Catholics now on the court are Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., and Justices
Anthony M. Kennedy, Samuel A. Alito Jr. and Clarence Thomas. Justices Stephen G. Breyer and
Ruth Bader Ginsburg are Jewish, and Justice John Paul Stevens is Protestant.
Judge Sotomayor, who is divorced with no children, would replace David H. Souter, who is an Episcopalian.
At Tuesday's introduction ceremony, Judge Sotomayor did not mention her religion, and President Obama made
only a glancing reference to her having attended Cardinal Spellman.

First GOP senator pledges vote against Sotomayor

Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kansas) became the first senator Thursday to go on the record to say that he would vote against
Judge Sonia Sotomayor's nomination to the Supreme Court.
While many Republicans have opted to keep their powder dry, issuing statements about carefully reviewing
President Obama's pick to join the high court, Roberts flatly stated he wouldn't support Sotomayor.
"I do not plan to vote for her," Roberts told radio host Chris Stigall on KCMO Talk Radio 710 this morning.
"I voted no in 1998. I did not feel she was appropriate on the appeals court," Roberts said. "Since that time,
she has made statements on the role of the appeals court I think is improper and incorrect."
Other lawmakers have expressed similar complaints about Sotomayor, but no others have yet come out to state
that they'll vote against her.
