JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Title:Night Shift Worker

The concierge will have responsibility for the upkeep and security of the building during the night. The concierge is responsible for reporting, and keeping a log of any repairs or maintenance required. The concierge will act as the first point of contact for service users, members of the public and the emergency services. It is anticipated that the concierge will provide help and assistance with housing management issues as and when necessary.

In order to assist service users if necessary, the concierge will need to be aware of and knowledgeable on the conditions of tenancy, Gowrie Care Ltd Policies and procedures and any policies and procedures specific to the building.

Main Duties

Allow service users and other authorised individual’s access to the building during the night. This will be aided by Closed Circuit Television.

Assist service users to maintain the safety of the dwelling and maintain balanced communities.

  • Make regular inspections of all internal and external common areas of the development, ensuring they are kept in a clean, tidy and safe condition. This will be done with the assistance of the Closed Circuit CCTV system.
  • Carry out minor repairs as necessary Assist service users to achieve the skills necessary to deal with minor repairs.
  • Ensure any repairs required are reported timeously to the Glasgow City Council and liaise with emergency contractors.
  • Assisting service users and support staff, however possible, in the event of any emergency arising.
  • Report on all vandalism within the building / area and take whatever preventative action possible.
  • Report any service users who do not comply with their conditions of tenancy.
  • Reduce or eliminate any noise or disturbance.
  • Maintain a log of events in the prescribed manner. Record information appropriately and pass on relevant information to the staff team.
  • Be familiar with the positioning of all building related services, such as electricity and water.
  • Respond to internal alarms in accordance with guidelines and follow the procedure to be applied in the event of a fire alarm/fire.
  • Be trained in first-aid procedures
  • Provide cover for periods of absence for holidays, sickness etc. Work a shift pattern which will include weekends.
  • Attend as appropriate, training courses and events to ensure continuous development of skills.

Overview of the Service
Situated in the Kinning Park area of Glasgow facing, Portman Street is a new building due to open in August 2016. It is emergency accommodation for 30 Homeless men over 18 years old. It is within walking distance of the underground station and the busy bus route of Paisley Road West. There is on site parking
Service user needs cover a wide range, including Alcohol / drug issues and Mental health problems. There are also a small percentage of service users who have been through the asylum process. Service users live in individual studios, which include a small kitchen, ensuite and lounge area.
Areas of Support
Our service users have varying degrees of support needs, including:-
  • Housing support, including attending appointments with Caseworkers and completing applications for housing association properties then supporting the service user to move into their property.
  • Daily living skills (cooking; cleaning; shopping etc)
  • Personal care prompts
  • Financial support (budgeting and support with setting up and maintaining benefits)
  • Accessing local amenities and social activities

Hours of Support
Support staff are available between 7am and 9pm seven days a week. There is a rolling rota in place, which remains the same throughout the year, unless a change in service need. There is a waking nightshift team which comprises of 4 staff (2 per nightshift). This is also a rolling rota over 7 days. There is an on call support system in place with both support staff and management on call levels.
Referrals for Portman Street come from the Emergency Accommodation Team based at The Hamish Allan Centre. Referrals can be made 24 hours a day and entrance to the project is direct access.
Support for Staff
The service has a Manager and Assistant Manager to support the team of Support Practitioners and Support Workers. The Manager/Assistant Manager provide regular supervision and mandatory training is provided in order that individual service user needs can be best met. Group supervision is also completed quarterly at Portman Street. New staff complete a 6 month probationary period with reviews at 2 / 4/ 6 months.
Gowrie Care has a manager’s on call service which provides phone support to staff out with normal office hours, this is in additional support to staff that are on duty.

Hillcrest Maintenance Services - Trades

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Hours:Hours are 39 hours per week Where additional hours are worked, overtime will be paid (must exceed full time hours). Employees are required to be part of the out-of-hours on-call rota.

Contract:Permanent post. All posts are subject to a 6 month probationary period. A formal review will take place at 2, 4 and 6 months.

Place of Work:The HMS office is in Glasgow although staff may be required to work in other geographical areas.

Salary:Salaries are paid monthly, directly into a bank account of your choice on the around 25th of each month. The salary for the post is £16,455 per annum. There is a Bonus Scheme in place.

Pension Scheme:Auto enrolment scheme with Now Pensions. Employee contributes 1%, Employer contributes 1%.

Health Plan:Employee’s are automatically given free admission to the Health Plan Scheme. The cost for this is met by the Employer. Details will be sent out with the Contract of Employment.

Death in Service:All employees are automatically included in a Death in

Service Scheme, payment is 3 times an employee’s annual salary.

Annual Leave:Leave year runs from 1st January - 31st December. Annual Leave entitlement is 30 days per annum, rising to 32 days over a 5 year period. You are required to retain 7 annual leave days (or part time equivalent) to cover the shutdown period over Christmas and New Year. Annual leave is calculated on a pro rata basis for part time staff and will be transferred into hours.

Clothing:Clothing bearing the company logo will be provided and will require to be worn at all times accompanied by an ID Badge.

General:Hillcrest have their own system in place for negotiating annual pay increases. Salary rates are aligned to the industry sector trade bodies, SJIB (Electricians), SNIPEF (Gas Engineers and Plumbers) and CIJC (Joiners, Painters and other craft trades) and SPADAC (Apprentice Painter).

Employees have an option to join a Trade Union if they wish although Trade Unions are not currently recognised by Hillcrest Maintenance Services.

Smoking:The person appointed will be working in a non-smoking environment. There are no designated smoking areas within the office. Smoking is permitted outside the building and should be out of view of clients/customers. This includes the use of E-cigarettes. Employee’s who are required to carry out their duties in buildings which are outwith the control of the Association are jointly responsible for minimising their own exposure to risk factors such as passive smoking.
