Job Title: Young Carers Education Development Worker

Salary: £23,398

Hours of work: 37 hours per week including occasional evenings

Responsible to: Young Carer Team Manager

Base: Carers Support Service Office, Ryton Gardens

Location: Warwickshire

Responsible for: Working with schools in Warwickshire to develop and embed appropriate support for young carers thus ensuring that their caring responsibility does not impact on their potential educational achievement.

Purpose of job: To develop links and working relationships with schools in order to:

1.  Embed good practice in relation to young carers within education;

2.  Ensure the Warwickshire Young Carer Schools Award Scheme standards are implemented within schools;

3.  Develop an effective model of transition support for young carers entering secondary education.

Relationships:

·  Make contact with relevant personnel (both in academic and pastoral roles) in schools in Warwickshire;

·  Explore partnership working possibilities which deliver mutual benefits;

·  Organise and facilitate networking meetings in collaboration with schools;

·  Work collaboratively with Carers Support Service staff in exchanging professional knowledge, experience, mutual support and service development;

·  Support the service through the production of performance reports and other information as required;

·  Be constantly mindful of confidentiality and have a good awareness of the laws, policies and procedures pertaining to work with children and young people.

Development Work- Warwickshire Young Carers Award Scheme:

·  Raise awareness of young carers issues within schools;

·  Suggest policies and working practices to ensure that young carers are effectively identified and supported;

·  Encourage schools to nominate a young carer lead;

·  Support schools to embed good practice in relation to young carers, including providing training to staff and young people where appropriate;

·  Work collaboratively with staff in schools to produce model Young Carer standards applicable to primary and secondary education;

·  Develop evidence base for implementation of the standards including the involvement of older young carers in the monitoring and evaluation of the standards.

Special Conditions:

·  A full driving license and access to a vehicle with business insurance is essential for this post;

·  Due to the nature of our work with vulnerable individuals an enhanced DBS check is required for this post;

·  All staff are expected to carry out their duties and responsibilities with due regard to the policies and procedures of Carers Support Service.

Minimum of two years’ experience of working in schools / 
