COURSE OBJECTIVES - After successfully completing this course, the student will be able to:

·  Read and comprehend literature and informational text building in complexity.

·  Write routinely over varied time frames (in all subjects) for multiple purposes, tasks and audiences.

·  Engage in a range of collaborative discussions on various topics and texts to share knowledge and experiences, building upon one another’s ideas, and referring to the text for support.

·  Demonstrate command of the conventions of Standard English including grammar, usage, and mechanics while learning ways to use language to convey meaning effectively.

·  Determine/clarify meaning of grade-appropriate words encountered through listening, reading, and use.

BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS

·  You are expected to be PROMPT (On time and sitting in your seat), PREPARED (Have all the necessary supplies), POLITE (Raise your hand before you speak. Treat everything and everybody with respect), PRODUCTIVE (Follow directions and complete all the assignments) and PROUD (Try your best).

·  In addition, you are expected to follow the guidelines set forth in the Lake County Student Code of Conduct.

·  Binder with plenty of loose-leaf paper

·  Novel

·  Black or blue ballpoint pens

·  Sharpened #2 pencils with a pencil eraser

GRADING POLICY – The student’s grade will be based on the total number of points earned during the nine-week grading period. The student will be given a variety of assignments including but not limited to homework, classwork, quizzes, test, projects and/or writing.

A = 90% to 100% of possible points ***To calculate the grade, divide the total number of

B = 80% to 89% of possible points points earned by the total number of points

C = 70% to 79% of possible points possible***

D = 60% to 69% of possible points

F = 59% or below of possible points

Late work will be accepted, but at partial credit. If you miss a class, then you are responsible for the material covered. Please refer to page 2-3 in the Student Code of Conduct.

LiveSchool: LiveSchool is a web based application where students and parents can keep track of their student’s school wide behavioral records (infractions and positive points) in real time. Students who exhibit good behavior will accumulate points to purchase special privileges and rewards throughout the year. Students will be issued a detention after 3 infractions. All students will be given a unique code to share with their parents and create an account. Students and parents can follow their progress via an app or the world wide web.
