Hello Parents,

The Third Graders have been tasked to complete their 2ndMath Project. In this Second Quarter your child has found the area of quadrilaterals and decomposed composite figured and this project will allow them to apply all strategies and concepts learned. Your child will be required to use the information given by the teacher in order to successfully complete this project. The due date isFriday January 9th, 2015. This project will be graded as an assessment which counts for 50% of your child’s total grade.

Your child will use the following materials: grid paper (oversized), Table (provided by the teacher), and creativity.

The following is a description of the project:

Section 1:

1.Students created a composite figure on their grid paper.

2.Inside the composite figure, when decomposed, will show 3 non-overlapping quadrilaterals.

3.Each quadrilateral will be shaded a different color.

Section 2:

  1. Label the dimensions of each quadrilateral. Show the Length and Width of each quadrilateral.
  2. Your dimensions, equations, and total area are represented in the table.

Section 3:

  1. In the composite figure, each quadrilateral shows a school, a gymnasium, and a playground.
  2. The school has the greatest total area and the playground has the least total area.

Section 4: Creativity!

  1. Your grid paper should include all items from sections 1-3 neatly displayed with an artistic flavor.
  2. Make sure your blueprint is organized and neat. You may be as creative as possible using pictures that represent the environment you are creating.

****Please attaché the rubric to your project.

Thanks,

MC

I have read the information about the Math project that is due next Friday January 9, 2014. I understand that all three sections are to be completed and turned in on time.

  • Inside the composite figure there are 3 quadrilateral and they are separated with three different colors.
/
  • Inside the composite figure at least 2 of the shapes are quadrilaterals and they are separated with at least two different colors.
/ Inside the composite figure 1 shape is a quadrilateral and it is separated with at least one color. / Part I is incomplete, incorrect, or irrelevant.
Section
Two /
  • All 3 quadrilaterals are labeled using the correct dimensions (Length & Width) that describe the square units.
  • The dimensions, equation, and total area are shown in the table provided.
/

  • Not all of the dimensions, equation, and total area are shown in the table provided.
/ Part II is incomplete, incorrect, or irrelevant
Section
Three /
  • The composite figure correctly describes the school, playground, and gym with the school showing the greatest area and the playground showing the least area.
/
  • The composite figure shows a school, a playground, and a gym, however, the school doesn’t have the greatest area or the playground doesn’t show the least area.
/
  • The composite figure does not shows a school, a playground, or a gym, and the school doesn’t have the greatest area and the playground doesn’t show the least area.
/ Part III is completely incorrect, or irrelevant, or missing.
