CALL FOR PAPERS / WORKSHOPS

AEV Annual Conference 2009

Be energised and inspired by the

Visual Arts of Asia or influenced by Asia.

Explore rich and diverse

contemporary and traditional cultures.

This conference will provide inspirations and approaches to the visual arts of Asia. Teachers will have the opportunity to develop understandings of Asia and the contexts within which art is made.

·  Hear from artists influenced by Asian art practice as well as artists from Asia.

·  Experience hands-on practical workshops, watch demonstrations and listen to presentations about the visual arts of Asia.

·  Engage with teachers and schools involved with studies of Asia.

·  Explore resources and materials available for teachers.

Teachers will leave this conference with confidence, ideas, understandings, approaches and inspiration

to incorporate the visual arts of Asia into their teaching programs.

Contributions are invited from teachers from all levels of schools and tertiary institutions, researchers, artists, undergraduate fine art and art education students to consider:

WHY ASIA?

EXPLORE THE THEME IN & THROUGH THE VISUAL ARTS:

Contemporary visual arts of Asia are exciting, engaging and challenging. What better way to develop understandings of art and its various personal and cultural meanings than through the visual arts of Asia?

·  Visual artists within Australia are influenced by the life and the diverse cultures of Asian countries.

·  Many artists from Asia are established contemporary artists within Australia.

·  Studies of contemporary, historical and cultural traditions and techniques will enrich your art programs.

·  The Asia Education Foundation provides resources and support to engage students in studies of Asia in the arts.

·  Many teachers engage their students in the Studies of Asia in their art programs.

This is the opportunity to share your valuable visual arts learning and teaching practices and programs that are inspired by Asia or explore understandings of particular cultures in Asia.

Imaginative interpretations are welcome

·  Have you taken a successful art program that explored different art styles and practices in Asia?

·  Did you guide your students to explore the cultural context, use of symbols or meanings in contemporary or traditional arts from Asia?

·  Have your students examined art works of a contemporary visual artist influenced by Asia or from Asia?
