Strathcarron Hospice is seeking to recruit a Retail Managerto provide relief cover across our fourteen shops.
Duties include covering for absences of other Retail Managers, day to day management of the charity shops and assisting in the development of our distribution centre. We are looking for applicants with good communication skills, strong retail backgrounds with experience in customer care and cash handling. We are ambitious to develop our shops and you will be instrumental in introducing new systems and training our volunteers.
Applicants must have a clean driving licence and access to the use of a vehicle to enable them to visit any of our outlets.
Applicants should be flexible and able to work at weekends and cover other shops when required.

2.JOB PURPOSE
To provide cover to retail units and the distribution centre to ensure the maximisation of sales and profitability of our shops. To undertake specific projects to ensure the smooth running of the retail units.
3. DIMENSIONS
To operate and develop profitable second hand retail outlets to secure funds for the Hospice.
To raise awareness of the Hospice, it’s brand and services in the community.
To develop and promote good working relationships with volunteers.
To work alongside the Hospice complying with relevant policies.
To investigate all possible venues for maximising sale of both donated and boughtgoods.

5.KEY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES
Planning and Organising
To provide cover to individual shops as directed, ensuring adequate and appropriate cover is provided for the shop trading hours.
To meet agreed sales targets.
To manage and co-ordinate the day to day retail activities and volunteer team within the shop.
To manage the agreed stock rotation system within shop to ensure stock displayed is both regularly refreshed and updated.
To manage and co-ordinate window and shelf displays within the Shop operational guidelines.
To manage and co-ordinate the processing of donated goods within agreed guidelines selecting appropriate goods for sale/recycling.
To operate and manage a pricing policy to maximise profit from donated goods.
To ensure efficient and effective shop operations by following guidelines to include stock storage and disposal of rubbish.
To manage and co-ordinate the sale and stock control of all bought in goods including Christmas cards.
To liaise and assist in the transfer of goods to other shops.
To select appropriate goods suitable for realising more money through e-bay, or specialist vintage shops.
To train new volunteers.
Financial and Security
To monitor sales performance against budget and take remedial action in agreement with Chief Executive.
To control expenditure of a small petty cash float.
To control expenditure, minimise costs and authorise expenses within budget.
To seek opportunities to maximise value from donated goods according to Shop Policy.
To ensure daily banking with accurate and timely completion of daily sales ledger and weekly reporting.
To follow agreed till and cashing up procedures when handling money.
To ensure correct procedures are followed by the shop for the sale receipt of donated money.
To ensure that Health and Safety and Trading Standards regulations are adhered to within the individual shop.
To ensure that Hospice and Shop policies are adhered to.
To maintain adequate security and safety of shop, money, goods and personnel.
To promote and develop Gift Aid for donated stock.
To report accidents according to Hospice policy and report any maintenance requirements according to guidelines.
To follow security procedures when handling donations.
To ensure shop volunteers are trained in fire/evacuation procedures.
Customer Service
To provide excellence in customer service at all times.
To show real appreciation to donors for all donated goods at all times.
To deliver and maintain high standards of presentation, stock, and housekeeping
To actively listen to customers and volunteers to demonstrate time and care.
To co-ordinate with the Fundraising Manager regarding the efficient collection and distribution of donated items as required.
To create a welcoming, happy and appreciative atmosphere for customers and shop volunteer team.
Encourage team work and exhibit leadership values.
Positively promote the role and working of the Hospice within the community.
Professional
Attend staff meetings as required.
Ensure shop volunteer team is regularly briefed on key issues, activities and changes to policy.
Engage volunteers in the communication loop with timely and effective information.
To develop self to enhance performance within the role and attend training courses as identified/required.
To support and carry out an induction programme for all new volunteers and ensure ongoing training.

Responsible for daily operations of individual shop as required, helping to achieve their weekly, quarterly and annual sales targets.

Terms and Conditions:The terms and conditions of service are those laid down in line with the Whitley Council terms and conditions.
Location: Strathcarron Hospice.
Salary Scale:£16,132 - £18,503 per annum, pro rata
(£15,056 – £17,269)
Staff taking up a new appointment with Strathcarron Hospice will normally enter the scale at the minimum of the pay band/range. Any appointment above the lowest point of the pay band/range will be subject to verification of previous NHS/Hospice services or experience outside the NHS/Hospice, which is given in recognition of relevant complete years of experience.
Hours:Part time, 35 hours per week
Employees may be required to vary the pattern of their working week subject to the exigencies of the service.
Duration:Permanent
Annual Leave:27 days rising to 29 days after 5 years service and to 33 days after 10 years service plus 8 public holidays (pro rata).

202.5 hours rising to 217.5 hours after 5 years service and to 247.5 hours after 10 years service plus 60 hours public holiday (pro-rata)

Superannuation:This post is superannuable under The Falkirk Council Local Government Superannuation Scheme and your remuneration will be subject to deduction unless you choose to opt out of the scheme.
