Meeting Minutes

April 14, 2014

Present: Shannon Hardy, Sally Siems, Sarah Delaney, Vicki Haasl, and Kathy Lee (Advisor)

Nurse’s Week:The board discussed what to do for Nurse’s Week May 6th- 12th. Vicki brought up finding ways to acknowledge and include pre-nursing students during Nurse’s Week to get them involved in MSNA.

Action:Kathy suggested getting volunteers to talk to incoming nursing students and pre-nursing students on Advising day-Tuesday April 22. Shannon suggested setting up a table the last Monday in August, talking to Ann Ruesch’s Fundamentals class and Dr. Anderson’s classes.

Shannon stated 8 people have signed up for the American Heart Association Walk in Stevens Point on Saturday, May 3.

Action: Mention this event at the April members meeting and that members can just donate if they do not want to walk. Plan to meet and walk together.

The board discussed needing boxes and signs for Family Center Donations.

Action: Vicki will bring boxes, Shannon will ask Kristine to make signs, get volunteers to wrap the boxes so they look nice and place 8-10 boxes throughout the campus such as the main entrance, the I building, and the E-building.

Action: The board approved to give a prize to the semester that donates the most money to the bone marrow drive. Vicki and Shannon will investigate options for prizes assuming about 44 students per semester and spending approximately 75 cents per student.

The board discussed making a form to leave by Analyn for the drawing for a free NSNA membership.

Action: Kathy will design a form to use and invite nursing students on the nurses’ station to go sign up for the drawing.

The board discussed coming up with trivia questions for the trivia contest.

Action: All 5 board members present will submit one trivia question to be used.

The board discussed the prize for the trivia contest. Sally stated she received two free gifts with the purchase of the pens as gifts for nurse’s week- a tote bag and a water bottle that say “you are appreciated.”

Action: The board approved the tote bag and water bottle will be given to the winner of the trivia contest.

Administrative

Assistant day:Vicki suggested the board buys Analyn a gift of flowers, a mug filled with chocolate, and a card for Administrative Assistant day for all the things she does for us.

Action: The board approved to reimburse Sarah and Shannon for buying the gifts.

Workshop:Shannon got information about QPR (Question, Persuade, and Refer) suicide prevention training. It is free, lasts 75 minutes, has room for groups of 20-30 people, and could offer a morning, afternoon and evening session for one day. The board discussed having a training session open to all MSTC students sponsored by the MSNA next fall.

Important dates:Tuesday, September 30 – Job Fair

Monday October 6 – Blood Drive

Possible Bone Marrow Drive

Action: Shannon will ask Kelly if we have to raise money to hold another bone marrow drive.

May BOD meeting:Kathy suggested we hold a May BOD meeting to prep for the Job Fair to plan needed food and supplies, stuffing “Save the Date” envelopes for prospective vendors, and coming up with possible speakers for the fall semester, and an August meeting agenda.

T-Shirt:The board discussed having gray t-shirts and sweatshirts available online to order.

Pinning Ceremony:Shannon discussed her and Bee’s visit to Wunrow’s Greenhouse to look at flowers and price options for the pinning ceremony. Shannon read background information about the Stargazer Lily –they are “a symbol of perfection,” can be called heaven scent for fragrance and for elegance, is a symbolic message of high hopes, and “symbolizes the fulfillment of a dream”. The board decided the Stargazer Lily is the best flower for the occasion.

Action:Make a card to attach to each of the 33 flowers noting what the flower symbolizes and that it is from MSNA. The board approved to purchase 33 Stargazer Lilies. Kathy will order them. Sarah will pick up the flowers on May 15th. Sarah and Vicki will hand them out at the pinning ceremony. Sally will talk to Patrice about using the club purchasing card to pay for the flowers.
