Progress in delivering proposals to improve breastfeeding services and rates

The role of the Band 2’s Breastfeeding Support Workers in increasing Breastfeeding initiation rates at Heartlands Hospital has been effective with a steady upward trend / increase in initiation rates over the past two years.

The Band 6 Community Development Coordinator for Breastfeeding has been successful in recruiting for the further roll out of La League Peer Councillor Support programme in Hodge Hill, a locality which has the highest infant mortality rates and Index of Multiple Deprivation score. Peer Supporter training is underway and another one planned in November.

Performance Against 6-8 week Prevalence Indicator:

RAG: Green

BEN PCT has exceeded target and have growth in this target indicator.

BEN PCT area has relatively low drop off rates between breastfeeding initiation and 6-8 week prevalence rates indicating effective interventions.
