GRADING POLICIES
The philosophy followed concerning choir grades is that most of the grade should be based on participation and effort rather than vocal ability. Thus, if a student actively participates in all phases of the class (rehearsals, using hand signs, concert attendance, sight reading, warm-ups), then he will receive a high grade for the six weeks. Also, concert attendance is of the utmost importance. Any student with an unexcused absence from a required performance will have a minimum of 20 points deducted from his six weeks. Any student who misses a required concert or rehearsal must present to the director a written excuse from the parent within three days of the event at which time the absence will be deemed excused or unexcused based on the reason given. This is at the discretion of the director. If the absence is deemed excused, then the student will have the opportunity to make-up the concert grade by singing the concert material for the director at a later date. Make –up work for daily written work, written or singing tests must be completed within one week from the time when the student returns to class. Extra credit is sometimes offered to students who wish to volunteer their time as workers for various choir hosted activities and contests.
Daily Participation: 60%
Concert Participation: 20%
Written Work and Singing Tests: 20%
