UNGEI Global Advisory Committee

Joint Working Session on Collaboration for

Mainstreaming Equity Issues in Country-Level FTI Processes

Monday, 12 November 2007, 3:30-6:00 p.m.

UNESCO Bonvin Building, 1 rue Miollis, Room 16

Objective: Formally initiate the proposed joint work of GAC, IATT, GTF and the EFA flagship for disabilities with the FTI. Discuss areas of convergence in our respective areas and identify concrete ways in which we can work together (specifically the HIV/AIDS, Gender, child protection and childhood disabilities tool/checklist), identify next steps.

1)EFA-FTI overview by FTI representative. What are the existing processes that this joint working group can feed into? Thoughts on the development of the proposed joint checklist. (15 min)

2)Update from GAC, IATT, GTF& Disabilities flagship on work to date with the FTI, recognizing that there have been various levels of engagement and progress on this issue amongst the groups. During this session it should be made clear what the objectives are of each group in working with the FTI. We should also get a sense of where there are areas of convergence, which will help identify opportunities for coordination. (30 min)

3)Proposed joint checklist. What would a joint checklist look like? How would it be used? What are the challenges? How should the checklist be structured to address cross-cutting issues (i.e.girls’ education and HIV/AIDS) and interventions for specific populations (i.e. children with disabilities, working children, orphans and vulnerable children)?Begin withpresentation of initial draft of this checklist (if possible). This checklist should build on what already exists. Suggest breakout groups to think about these types of questions and brainstorm based on draft checklist. (40 min)

4)Report back from groups. The outcome from each of the breakout groups will be helpful, if there is consensus to move forward with a toolkit, in the future developments with the checklist. (30 min)

5)Agree on Next Steps.

Facilitator for this session should have ideas for next steps based on discussion during 2 hours. (15 min)
