Director of Youth and Community Services
ACHIEVEability’s Youth & Community Services Division is an expansion division of ACHIEVEability. It currently offers direct services such as free tax preparation, utility and energy assistance, rental and security deposit assistance, rental/property tax rebates, assistance with financial aid applications, zoning meetings (as a Registered Community Organization or RCO), foreclosure diversion outreach, a public access computer center, town hall meetings, youth activities, financial education workshops, 311 Community Liaison services, assistance with applications for basic needs and public benefits (TANF, food stamps, LIHEAP, Medicaid), and referrals to employment & training programs, housing counseling, and food banks. The expansion of this division will include the development of programs and partnerships with neighborhood schools, churches and businesses. In addition, the Youth & Community Services Division will work in collaboration with the Family Services Division to design and deliver services and supports to children and youth in the Haddington/Cobbs Creek community.
Position Summary:
The Director of the Youth & Community Services Division is responsible for the overall operation of the community office, building and sustaining partnerships within the Haddington/Cobbs Creek community, and expansion of programs/efforts that will engage and support youth in these neighborhoods. The Director will also be responsible for managing the NAC (funded by OHCD) which is comprised of resident leaders from the Haddington/Cobbs Creek communities. The Director coordinates and directs activities and manages all of the programs of ACHIEVEability’s Youth & Community Services Division.
The Director of Youth & Community Services is responsible for ensuring that services to agency clients are consistent with the organization’s vision and in compliance with regulatory and funding requirements of all contracts. The Director is also responsible for ensuring counseling services, benefits screening & support services, and all Youth & Community Division products reflect quality and adhere to agency policies and organizational procedures. The Director must also manage related data collection and reporting, as well as facilitate continuous quality improvement within the division.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervision of Youth & Community Division Staff, Interns, Partners and Volunteers;
- Active engagement of and partnership with the Community Advisory Committee (NAC) and its subcommittees.
- Oversight of the Youth & Community Services Division programs: from design and development or enhancement, to funding, implementation, database maintenance and updates, evaluation, and internal/external reporting, financial and personnel management.
- Participates in meetings, presentations, workshops etc. to promote Youth & Community Division programs to residents, partners and funding agencies.
- Promotes Youth & Community Services Division strategic efforts and programs at community
meetings, advisory meetings, funder meetings, staff meetings, leadership team meetings, board meetings, and other forums.
- Prepares written and data‐driven reports for the community, the CAC (NAC), ACHA's CEO and leadership team, funders, and other audiences -- ensures the completion of reports for all programs in a timely and efficient manner.
- Develops recommendations for program enhancements and integration with overall ACHIEVEability programs. Implements enhancements.
- Develops new programs and projects to address the needs of youth and the community.
- Responds (in partnership with ACHA's development staff) to RFP’s and assists with developing proposals for funding to enhance and/or introduce new programming in the Youth & Community division.
- Raises funds in collaboration with other internal and external entities as appropriate.
- Cultivates and maintenance of partnerships with residents, schools, businesses, youth, community organizations and institutions, as well as leaders within the City of Philadelphia, funders and other stakeholders to broaden and deepen ACHIEVEability’s impact in the community.
- Oversight of all aspects of community and youth engagement: leadership, input and participation by neighborhood youth and residents, businesses and organizations in ACHIEVEability's programs, activities, and events.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Strong background in youth and or community programming in low income neighborhoods
- Capacity to work with diverse audiences -- youth, parents, community residents & leaders, funders, policy makers and ACHA board members
- 3 to 5 years of supervisory experience
- Experience with Philadelphia city systems -- School District, DHS, Managing Directors Office, etc
- Experience and comfort with low income communities and the residents
- Bachelor’s Degree Required, Master’s Degree preferred but not required
