Loretta will be here to discuss opportunities for school librarians to utilize the artists, authors, and speakers we have in place through the Eastern Suffolk BOCES Arts in Education program. AiE provides programs for students and for professional development related to arts integration through music, theater, literary arts, visual arts, and media arts. When contracting through BOCES AiE school districts are eligible to receive reimbursement from New York State for a portion of the cost.

10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Susan Glaser – “Long Island History Day”

During this session, Susan willaddress the fundamentals of the History Day Program by presenting samples of winning projects and what made them successful, provide librarians with a variety of classroom-ready tools to help them work with their teachers to begin implementing History Day in their own schools and provide an understanding of the judging criteria.

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m. Dr. William Brennan – “3 Trends that Define the Future of Education: Innovation Labs, Makerspaces and Learning Commons”

In today’s most innovative and dynamic school environments, the teaching and learning process is being transformed to foster new rules of engagement and empowerment. Dr. Brennan will share the many ways forward-thinking educators in Farmingdale Schools are breaking down traditional walls to create a culture of personalized and passion based learning. Learn how these trends are the key to ensuring that our students possess the knowledge, confidence and mindset to thrive in a rapidly changing global society. Given the growing momentum of these trends, what are the implications for students, teachers, schools, and the education community at large?

Bill Brennan, Ed.D is the Executive Director for Innovation, Communications and Organizational Development in Farmingdale Schools. Working with the leadership team in Farmingdale, Bill instituted an overhaul of professional practices related to organizational learning and successfully established Farmingdale Schools and the leadership team as an incubator for innovation in learning. He has published articles on leadership, innovation and professional learning for several publications. Over the past decade he has delivered numerous keynotes and consulted in school districts across the United States on school transformation, professional learning, personalized learning, and leadership. Bill holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership from Fordham University and currently teachers in the Doctoral program. Bill founded and led several leadership incubators and facilitates administrative retreats for several organizations. Bill resides in Brightwaters, New York with his wife Dawn and has three children Liam (8), Lila (6), Lucas (3).
