POSITION: Golf Course Superintendentfor Danville Country Club in Danville, Illinois

Salary: $55,000-$65,000

Position Purpose

To manage and supervise golf course maintenance activities and personnel performing maintenance work

Essential Position Functions

Responsible for:

  • Planning all maintenance operations, to include short and long-range plans
  • Organizing work around availability of personnel and equipment. Includes coordinating maintenance operations around golf course activities
  • Reviewing weekly work requirements and working with staff to assign personnel accordingly.
  • Providing weekly direction on work to be completed, both in written form, as well as verbal
  • Establishing, approving, reviewing, and following standards set for the courses. Includes adjusting industry standards when necessary
  • Conducting a daily inspection of the courses to check on work being done, work completed, identifying work projects for scheduling, and the status of special projects
  • Scheduling training for personnel on industry requirements, as well as employee and safety issues
  • Evaluating daily work performance of subordinates to identify where corrections are required, and evaluating performance annually in written form, to include setting goals
  • Establishing needs and use of herbicides and fertilizer to all golf turf to insure a strong, healthy and playable surface

Education, Job Standards and/or Experience

To be successful in this position an applicant must possess:

  • Four years of higher education in turf grass agronomy or like field, plus four years experience.
  • A valid driver’s license
  • The ability to obtain and maintain pesticide applicator license
  • The ability to use equipment and machines including, but not limited to: power and hand tools, turf and irrigation system/maintenance equipment, light equipment
  • A knowledge of turf varieties and species and their uses
  • A knowledge of turf growth habits to effectively apply fertilizers and herbicides
  • A knowledge of equipment to perform basic maintenance and adjustments
  • A knowledge of turf mowing to provide proper appearance and playability
  • An ability to supervise and direct the work of others
  • An ability to diagnose disease and insect problems in turf to determine what pesticides to apply and when to maintain healthy turf
  • An ability to troubleshoot irrigation systems to properly maintain
  • An effective use of written and verbal communication skills
