COURSE DESCRIPTION

· This course is designed to give 2+2 college credit, as well as, the opportunity to build projects and develop fabricating skills. Students will become proficient welders with Oxy-Fuel, Arc, MIG, and TIG welding. In addition to the welding instruction students will develop lay out and fabrication skills and explore career opportunities in the welding industry. Upon completion of course work students will earn 3 college credits from Blue Mountain Community College in Basic Welding. This is a very hands on class and students participation is a must. This class is designed for the students to take advantage and develop job skills for entry- level positions. Participation in FFA and Career Development Events is strongly encouraged.

TOPICS OF STUDY

· Students will complete Flat, Vertical, Horizontal, and Over-head welds using the Oxy-Fuel, Arc, MIG, and TIG welding process.

· Students will complete work from the required text in each of the welding process areas.

· Related Instruction will include skills in measuring, cutting, and general fabrication skills for assembly.

· Students will complete weekly math assignments related to their welding assignments, keep a daily journal of activities in the welding shop, and complete monthly reading and writing assignments related to their work in the welding shop.

REQUIRED SUPPLIES

· Pen / Pencil and room in a notebook

· Close toed shoes

· Long pants, coveralls, etc, for working in the shop

SAFTEY

· Appropriate shop clothing; long pants, no open toed shoes

· Safety glasses are required in the shop, these will be provided.

· Proper dress will be required at all times, if these rules are not followed you will not work in the metals lab.

GRADING

· Students will be graded using a point system. Students will earn points for homework, daily work, participation, projects, and tests.

· Grades will be based on the following scale:

90-100% = A 80-89%=B 70-79% C 60-69% D 59% and below = F

·  Grades are based on specific measurable progress of the State of Oregon Content Standards for CTE classes.

BEHAVIOR

· Students are expected to respect each other and to respect school and others peoples property. Students acting in an inappropriate manner will be verbally warned ad then sent to the time out room if the behavior continues
