ATTENDANCE: Attendance is highly recommended. Students are responsible for learning material they have missed due to absences. I will not re-teach material that has been misseddue to absences. If you want to withdraw at any time before the withdrawal date, it is YOUR responsibility to do so. If two or more tests are missed before the withdrawal date, and the student does not withdraw themselves, a grade of WF will be entered. If a student misses a test, it may be made up by taking the Final. Only one test can be made up in this way.

EXTRA CREDIT: Students may obtain extra credit for Tests 2 and 3 by doing quizzes in MyCourses. These quizzes will be available until 11:59 PM on the day before the test of which they are a part. MyCourses extra credit will not be reopened under any circumstances (including scheduled or unscheduled MyCourses down-time). Your score for each test is the score for the test plus one half of the aggregate of any extra credit scores for that test. This is the grade that I will use for the calculations outlined below. If the Final replaces a test grade, you lose any extra credit associated with that test grade. Extra credit quizzes are supposed to be individual efforts. Students taking a quiz on the same or a nearby computer at similar times will both get a grade of “0” for that quiz (I have ways of knowing!). If formatting errors have led to a lower grade, I will not fix the change unless it improves the quiz grade by more than 25%.

CLASSROOM COURTESY: Please remain quiet while I am speaking. If you need to leave a class early, please let me know at the beginning of the class. If the number of students leaving the room and coming back during class becomes excessive, I will need to take steps to reduce the frequency of this practice.

TESTING: Test 1 will not be given as a paper test. It will be the aggregate of quiz grades from assessments completed in the Test 1 folder. The points awarded for each assessment are in parentheses next to each assessment. For each module, the next assessment opens once a grade of at least 80% has been obtained on the previous assessment. Softchalk Exercises, Assignments and Practice Quizzes can all be done unlimited times. The Credit Quizzes each have 2 attempts. The Module 1-6 and Module 7-12 Tests allow 1 attempt each. The last attempt is the score taken for the Softchalk Exercises.

Module 1 Softchalk (1) ; Module 1 Assignment(0) ---> Module 1 Practice Quiz (0) ---> Module 1 Credit Quiz (5)

Module 2 Softchalk (1) ; Module 2 Assignment(0) ---> Module 2 Practice Quiz (0) ---> Module 2 Credit Quiz (5)

Module 12 Softchalk (1)’ Module 12 Assignment(0) --- Module 12 Practice Quiz (0) ---> Module 12 Credit Quiz (5)

Module 7-12 Test (8)

Due dates can be found on the attached schedule. Module 1-6 Assessments will be due first, then Module 7-12 Assessments. If all of the work is completed by 11:59 PM, 3 days before each due date, an early completion bonus of 2.5 points will be awarded for each set of assessments. Please email me if you achieve this goal and I will manually add the points to your grade report. Assessments will not be extended under any circumstances. Leaving these until close to the due date is a personal choice, and choices have consequences. The only way to avoid potential problems is to get the assessments done early. Working steadily through each week is the best way to approach this. Procrastinate at your own risk/peril! These quizzes are supposed to be individual efforts, done by the person whose name is on the MyCourses account. Cheating will be dealt with in strict adherence to the College Academic Honesty Policy (

Tests 2 and 3 are paper tests given in class. Students are not permitted to leave the room for ANY reason while taking a test. The use of any electronic devices (aside from an approved calculator) is expressly prohibited. The only calculators approved for use during tests are scientific calculators (in the style of the TI-30Xa). Graphing calculators will not be allowed for use during tests. Students are responsible for ensuring that they have the right calculator. Cell-phones and other communications devices must be turned off on test days. Students must keep both hands above the table at all times. Students wearing caps will be asked to remove them. Students are required to have their eyes down on their own paper at all times.

GRADING: Three tests worth 25% each; Final exam worth 25%. Final exam result may replace one lower test grade.

A = Score of 90 or more on first four tests OR average of at least 90 from all four tests

B = Score of 80 or more on first four tests OR average of 80 - 89.9 from all four tests

C = Average of 70 – 79.9 from all four tests

D = Average of 60-69.9 from all four tests

F = Average of less than 60 from all four tests

Taking the Final exam is optional, as long as you scored at least 80 on the first three tests. If you choose not to take the Final, your grade will be what is shown above.
