Landmark Court Case Project

The Supreme Court: The U.S. Government is structured to be flexible. There are many opportunities for change and growth so that we as a society can keep current with our every changing world. Our laws must reflect our ever changing technologies, knowledge, innovations and advances. One way in which the government can change rules and regulations is through Federal Supreme Court rulings. The Supreme Court rulings are not only important because of the case which it has ruled upon, but because of the implications it has for all subsequent cases in equal or lesser courts. This is called establishing a precedent. Once a precedent is established we must follow it as law. Some of the most important cases have been, and will continue to be discussed in class.

Background: You have been assigned a court case in class. Your job is to make a poster that will tell the story of your case and what the implications are for that case. Ex – Plessy v. Ferguson established “Separate, but equal,” while Brown v. The Board of Education of Topeka called for the desegregation of schools, essentially undoing the damage of Plessy v. Ferguson.

Directions: You will either create a social media page as a poster (i.e. facebook, Istagram, Twitter, SnapChat) or a comic book strip. Examples of each were shown in class. If you would like to create a social media page, please use the first rubric listed. If you would like to create a comic book strip, you should be using the second rubric. Both are provided below.
