Conahy Notes

HURLING

Both the junior A and junior B hurlers were once again in action in the last week in their respective Northern League/Championship campaigns. The junior A side faced neighbours St. Patrick’s (Ballyragget) on Thursday night last in Ballyragget while the junior B team hosted Cloneen in Jenkinstown on Sunday night last. Conahy enjoyed a great start over the Ballyragget men in the Junior A clash, leading by 1-10 to 0-5 at half-time. The home side did manage to reduce the deficit during the second half, but Conahy were able to hold them at bay, eventually winning by 1-14 to 0-12. The locals will now face Young Irelands in the Northern Junior A league final on Friday night next at 7.30 p.m.

The junior B hurlers fought out an extremely tough battle with Cloneen, but were unfortunate to lose out by a single score, 1-10 to 0-12.

Congratulations go to Edmond Delaney and Tom Phelan, who were part of the Kilkenny Intermediate hurling squad that defeated Cork in the All-Ireland Final in Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Sunday afternoon last. Tom was also part of the Kilkenny football team who won the British championship recently and were subsequently defeated by Meath in the All-Ireland Junior Semi-Final on Saturday last in Nowlan Park.
