Overview

The OSSE Accreditation Program is equivalent to WorkSafeBC’s Partners in Injury and Disability Prevention Program, which provides industry with the “Certificate of Recognition” (COR). The Certificate of Recognition recognizes and rewards employers who go beyond the legal requirements of the Workers Compensation Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulation by taking a ‘best practices’ approach to implementing health, safety, injury management and return-to-work (RTW) management systems. The program promotes equally the concept of managing health and safety together with other components necessary for a successful business such as profitability and productivity.

JobSummary

The Health and Safety Systems Specialist supports the OSSE program and OSSE policy development; coordinates OSSE company relations and the OSSE awards program. The position reports to the Research, Programs and Development Manager.

The ideal candidate will retain a CRSP designation, or similar, and possess a well-rounded occupational health and safety background. He/she will possess auditing qualifications and experience along with training qualifications.

The applicant must be a self-starter, adaptable and driven to achieve high standards to achieve the organizational mission. Effective facilitation, oral presentation and collaboration is critical to this position.

Roles

  • Coordinate with the OSSE Technical Advisor in administering the OSSE program.
  • Support functions of the OSSE auditing program including the collection of trend data for the program to track performance and develop ISO and related GAP audits to the OSSE audit to provide a dual audit program for clients.
  • Build relationships with OSSE companies and develop and coordinate the OSSE awardsframework
  • Coordinate with various stakeholders including WorkSafeBC in policies and procedures around the OSSE Program.
  • Conduct speaking engagements concerning auditor training and resources.
  • Engage in the development and progress of the audit tools for both OHS and RTW/IM.

Occupational Health & Safety

  • Support academic research and the translation of knowledge from the results obtained into the OSSE audit tools.
  • Research, consult and develop training resources for Auditor training.

Auditing

  • Support the OHS and RTW systems management program (OSSE)
  • Demonstrate competence in conducting gap analysis between OHS systems (ISO 18001; OSSE)
  • Demonstrate Competence in building OHS systems audits
  • To conduct peer review of the audits.

Statistics

  • Support the analysis of complex data for statistical analysis
  • Understand statistical comparative analysis
  • Support the collection and methodology to identify trending data to compare effectiveness among variables

QUALIFICATIONS

Essential Qualifications:

  • Degree/diploma in Occupational Health & Safety with 3-5 years practical experience
  • Professional designation in Occupational Health and Safety: CRSP or equivalent
  • Auditing qualifications and experience (3 years) ( OSHAS, ISO 18001, COR)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Project Management experience and designation
  • Adult education academic qualification or 5 years relevant training experience
  • Post-secondary education in communications and/or demonstrated competence in both written and oral communication

Skills and Competencies Required:

  • Demonstrated competence and experience in developing OHS resource materials
  • Demonstrated competence in presentation skills
  • Excellent computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, and Access)
  • Familiar with CRM systems, business process mapping
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a collaborative management style.
