In this workshop, you will not only get some new and exciting journaling tips, but also get new tips on engaging students, getting students to “think” about science, and a new review technique. Come prepared for a fast paced, interactive workshop!

Flipping out! (3 hours)
Come learn about the Flipped Classroom Model. You will gain a basic understanding of flipping and get ideas of how to implement it in your classroom. You will leave with tools to help teach your students beyond the classroom walls. / 8/1
Journaling 2: Extreme Journaling(3 hours)
Need some new ideas for journals? Schooled in Journaling 1? In this session, teachers will participate in hands-on learning of how to take your journals to the next level. Topics covered will include overlays, journal foldables, student reflections, and much, much more! / 6/18; 7/30

Reading Foundations: The Science of Reading Instruction (6 hours)
Come take a comprehensive look at the science of reading instruction, including the big five areas; phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. This session will emphasize instructional reading strategies as well as the analysis of formative assessment to drive instruction. / Recommended for K-2 and special education teachers / 6/18, 6/20, 7/30, 8/1
Genre Writing (6 hours)
This professional development session will focus on the various writing genres. Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the organizational structures of each writing genres as well as learn instructional and formative assessment strategies to enhance writing across the genres. / Highly Recommended for 3-5 and special education Recommended for K-2 and special education / 6/17, 6/21, 7/29, 8/2
K-2 LLI (6 hours)
This professional development is intended for the designated campus K-2 LLI teachers. Participants will learn how to successfully implement the Leveled Literacy Intervention Systems by Fountas and Pinnell. Teachers will also engage in hands-on activities to become familiar with the reading behaviors students exhibit at various levels of text, as well as learn strategies to accelerate the progress of struggling readers. / K-2 LLI teachers who have not previously received LLI professional development / 6/18, 7/30
3rd Grade LLI (6 hours)
This professional development is intended for the designated campus 3rd grade LLI teachers. Integrating Social Studies into the Elementary Classroom (6 hours)
This course is designed to give you the tools you need for successful integration of Social Studies at the Elementary level. Participants will have an in-depth look at the TEKS and logistics of curriculum implementation and assessment. Time will be given to develop clear expectations of the social studies curriculum, the workshop model, resources available, and how to plan to make the best use of class time. / 6/18; 8/1
Social Studies: 4th and 5th GradeDBQ (6 hours)
Come learn from the experts on how to implement document based questions into your social studies classroom. The DBQ project presenters will show teachers practical steps to a successful program to increase students' ability to analyze primary sources and develop document based essays. Each campus will be receiving the DBQ binders next year– we would like one representative from each campus in either 4th or 5th grade to attend. / 7/29
Social Studies Out of District Offerings
CELEBRATING FREEDOM – ELEMENTARY STYLE(24 hours)
Explore language arts and social studies curriculum that commemorates Celebrate Freedom Week. Valuable content will be presented by history experts, followed by interactive LRE strategies to teach the importance of the Declaration of Independence, U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Materials will include hands-on activities, the use of children’s literature and biographical information on the people in the TEKS for teaching students about these notable people.

KIDS ARE CITIZENS, TOO! (8 hours)
Good citizenship doesn’t just happen--it has to be taught. Kids need to understand basic concepts such as the need for rules and laws, characteristics of a good citizen and respect for authority. This institute will provide resources that demonstrate these concepts as well as the symbols, customs and celebrations that represent America’s identity. Materials will include hands-on activities, the use of children’s literature and biographical information on the personalities includedin the TEKS.

This session focuses on the components of the Math Workshop Model. You will participate in discussion and activities to clarify your understanding on “how” to implement the model. Time will be spent on designing mini-lessons, small group instruction, and work stations.
