MODULE OVERVIEW
The Mentorship module forms part of the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s (NMC) (2008) Standards toSupport Learning and Assessment in Practice. The mentorship qualification can be achieved through the successful completion of this approved NMC Mentorship module achieving stage 2 (Mentor) of the above standards.
NB: Mentor in Practice
The emphasis throughout the module is placed on personal and professional development, engaging in reflection and reflexivity, to develop and extend coaching, assessment and facilitation skills necessary to support learning in practice.
You will have an opportunity to explore the nature of learning and teaching in practice through the study of learning theories, the concept of adult learning, accountability and assessment and evaluation strategies in the context of giving feedback, measuring achievement, reliability, validity, competence and quality.
Prior to commencing the mentorship module, each student mentor will be required to identify the name of a qualified mentor who has maintained their mentor status by attending annual mentor updates and engaging in triennial review. The named mentor will support the student mentor throughout the duration of the module with particular regard to practice learning activities.
