HPAC Executive Meeting Minutes – January 10, 2007

Janey Cameron – Principal’s Report
- Construction of the new school is on time despite unforeseen water problems.
- Architect drawings of the new school are available on the district website at:
- The Village Parent Participation Preschool has applied for a $25,000 grant towards construction of new playground facilities through the Rick Hanson Foundation. This is in addition to the $20,000 provincial grant the HPAC has applied for.
- Staff changes: Mrs. Tevendale is taking a five-month leave at the end of January. Replacement candidates are currently being interviewed; Mr. Holmes is joining the staff in special education.
- The government has issued a revision of its guidelines for food sold within schools. The guidelines will be reviewed and changes made to our food offerings as needed. Gayle will provide the Food Days Coordinator with a copy of the guidelines, which also impact any fundraising events held at the school.
- January is a heavy testing month including, among others, the TOPA reading readiness and the Kindergarten numeracy readiness test for our Kindergarten students and the Grade 4 and 7 student and parent satisfaction tests. The school will also be proceeding with the FSA testing in February.
- The new school website will be available shortly and Rich Chan will provide Robyn with author privileges so that she can begin to evaluate the site’s potential for the new HPAC website.
- Parking regulations around the school have been changed again. Janey will communicate the changes in the school newsletter.
Alison Tucker – Fundraising Update
- The Gingerbread Houses made a profit of $1363 and the Scholastic Book Fair made a profit of $1691.
- There was some discussion of future fundraising ideas, including the fall parent social. Different options will be further explored.
- Upcoming fundraising events include another book fair as well as the Talent and Ice Cream night.
Robyn Crisanti – Communications Update
- The communication team is currently reviewing website options for the new HPAC website and expects to have a recommendation within the next few weeks.
Sherry Grant
- Sherry will talk to Janey about the need for future lunch hour programs. Mad Science will not be offered for the time being due to some of the logistical challenges.
