PARENT INFORMATION FOR THE 2017//2018 WARRIOR DANCE & HIP HOP TEAM

This form contains important information for both the parent/guardian and participant to review

if you are considering applying for a position on the Alemany Dance Team.

ALL STUDENTS WHO ARE INTERESTED IN TRYING OUT FOR

THE DANCE TEAM MUST HAVE A 2.5 GPA

IMPORTANT DATES:

It is MANDATORY for the student to be available on these dates.

Clinic - DANCE: 5/1, 5/2, 5/3 & 5/4 3:00 – 5:30 in the Alemany Dance room.

Audition: Friday, May 5th – Dance Room – 3:00 –5:00 (arrive 20 minutes before your audition)

Varsity Dance Team (11th & 12th grade) 3:00- 4:00

JV Dance Team (9th & 10th grade) 4:00 – 5:00

Alemany hires professional judges for this event. We will review teacher evaluations, school attendance

as well as audition scores to determine who will make the squad. You should arrive ½ hour before the tryout begins to receive your tryout number and to sign in. All students trying out will wear black shorts and a white plain form fitting top. Hair should be in a ponytail pulled away from your face. Dancers will learn two dance styles – Jazz & Hip Hop.

Tuesday, May 9TH - * Team meeting – 3:30 – 4:30

Parent Meeting – All new & returning parents – 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm AT LEAST ONE PARENT IS REQUIRED TO BE AT THE MEETING – EVEN IF YOUR CHILD IS RETURNING TO THE TEAM. We will discuss important information for the year. SO PLAN TO ATTEND THIS MEETING.

FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS:

Each squad member will be responsible for all costs associated with being a member of the spirit squad. If the student measures for a uniform, then they are required to pay for all the spirit wear items, regardless if he/she stays on the squad.

The first payment of $400 is due on/or July 5th - Team members will pay $300.00 each month (Aug, 2ND , Sept. 6TH , Oct. 4th & Nov. 1ST ) and the $200.00 “Fundraising Fee” is due by Dec. 6TH . We will hand out the fundraising form at the team meeting on May 9TH . Additional expenses will come up throughout the year so that is why fundraising is VITAL to our program. These items include: *Competition entrance fee. * Choreographers fees * Music *Costumes *Food for retreats/banquets *Buses for special events

Parents will also have to pay entrance fee into competitions & hotel stay. PLEASE DO NOT MAKE A PAYMENT PRIOR TO JULY 7TH – WE WANT TO ENSURE THE MONEY GOES IN TO THE ACCOUNT FOR THE 2017-2018 FISCAL YEAR.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact Mrs. Segraves. Payments must be turned into the tuition office each month until balance is paid off. It is the DANCERS responsibility to give the receipt to Mrs. Segraves after each payment. Failure to pay will result in removal from team.

Alemany Dance Tryout Agreement Form 2017-2018

Dear Parents/Guardians and Interested Participant:

To be an EFFECTIVE member of this squad, each individual must commit a great deal of time throughout the entire year. JOB SCHEDULES, Dr. APPTS, SOCIAL PLANS AND OTHER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES; i.e. musicals, athletics, plays, singing groups, etc., cannot and will not interfere with practices and event assignments. In addition to maintaining the required academic standard of a 2.5 accumulative grade point average, they must be in compliance with the Attendance, Behavior and Discipline Policy guidelines required to remain eligible to participate. Each member of the squad is depended upon by the other members to participate fully in all activities. It is not fair to the other team members to have a person who does not commit to all the requirements of the team. When one person is missing it is difficult to learn/clean a routine. So PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU ARE READY FOR THIS COMMITMENT.

Each member will be responsible for covering some of the costs of uniforms, camp and other miscellaneous incidentals. The total cost per dance/hip hop team member for the year will be $1500 plus the $200 MANDATORY fundraising fee (This does not include any of the costumes, music or competitions which we fundraise for). Also the school rule is that if you are measured for a costume/ spirit wear you MUST pay the balance in full, even if the member leaves the squad for any reason! Certain Spirit Wear is custom made for each participant and are not returnable) If you choose to leave the team, or are asked to leave the team, you must return all pieces of the uniform.*** Camp wear will not be distributed before camp if the July payment has not been paid. They will not receive their Spirit Wear if they have not made the August payment prior to school. This may affect your ability to cheer games at the beginning of the year. Please note all money must be paid to the tuition office and the receipt is turned into Mrs. Segraves No money should be handed to any of the coaches.

Again, in ADDITION to the $1500 team fee, each dancer is responsible for raising $200 in a “Donation Letter” fundraiser for the dance/hip hop program. Donation forms will be provided at the team meeting May 9TH meeting. ALL DONATION FEES MUST BE IN BY Dec 6TH . YOUR CHILD WILL NOT PARTICIPATE IN THE COMPETITION PRACTICES if fees are not paid (these fees help pay the competitions, choreographer, costumes & competition music)

Opportunity for great personal growth, leadership development and involvement in many different exciting activities await the members of the Dance Team. Attitude, dedication and enthusiasm are just as or more important as the physical skills involved.

All dance & hip hop team members are required to take the team dance team class during the school year - this means that some students will have to take a summer school class to make up the credits they need to graduate from Alemany. I give a list to the counseling office of all team members that make the team. If the dancer is not in the appropriate dance class during the school day they cannot remain on the team.

All dance team members must attend ALL practices, camp and games. There are no exceptions! We have had too many “exceptions” asked this past year and therefore we are putting it into writing – if your child is on the team they are REQUIRED to attend practice, games, performances & school events. NO EXCEPTION! NO EXCUSE! Therefore it is essential that parents and participants consider and understand the many responsibilities of becoming a dance team member before tryouts. Please discuss these considerations, evaluate your priorities and if you consent, sign below. THE DANCER IS RESPONSIBLE TO TELL THE COACH IF THEY ARE NOT ABLE TO MAKE IT TO PRACTICE OR GAME AND WHY. WE ARE TRYING TO GET THE DANCERS TO UNDERSTAND RESPONSIBILITY SO WE WILL EXPECT THEM TO COME TALK TO US NOT A PARENT.

WE EXPECT OUR DANCERS TO REPRESENT ALEMANY DANCE & HIP HOP WITH THE HIGHEST RESPECT POSSIBLE – YOU ARE NOT JUST A DANCER YOU ARE A DANCER ON OUR TEAM SO ANYONE WHO DISPLAYS ACTIONS UNBECOMING OF A DANCER ON OUR TEAM WILL BE TALKED TO AND POSSIBLY REPRIMANDED – HOWEVER, THE SCHOOL HAS INFORMED US THAT IF A PARENT OR A STUDENT HAS CONCERNS WITH SOMEONES ACTIONS ON OR OFF CAMPUS THEY SHOULD CONTACT THE SCHOOL/DEANS NOT THE COACHES REGARDING PERSONAL MATTERS. THE DEANS HAVE STATED WE (THE COACHES) ARE ONLY TO DISCUSS YOUR CHILD AND THEIR BEHAVIOR NOT ANOTHER STUDENT/DANCER.

The attached Dance Contract details the expectations we set for the participants. We feel that it is important to provide this information so everyone knows what is expected for the year. We want to promote consistency and fairness throughout the Dance & Hip Hop Team. Both the parent and participant must initial each guideline, where required.

Initials / Guidelines: PLEASE READ EACH ONE BEFORE INITALING – WE WILL HOLD YOU TO THIS CONTRACT FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. PLEASE MAKE A COPY FOR YOURSELF.
______/ ______/ Dance & Hip Hop Team Members must register for the "Upper Division Dance" (JV Dance) or “Advanced Dance “ (Varsity Dance) class - they will not be on the team if they are not in this class. It is vital for them to be in this class during the school day to rehearse, have meetings, etc. By taking this class during the school day some students will need to take a summer school class at some point to make up the credit. Absence and tardies to dance class and/or games will affect your grade.
______/ ______/ PRACTICES ARE MANDATORY. If you miss a practice you will not participate in the upcoming game or possibly rally (depending on what they are working on in rehearsal). Unexcused tardies equal an absence. IF THEY MISS A COMPETITION REHEARSAL WITH A CHOREOGRAPHER THEY WILL NOT COMPETE IN THAT DANCE.
______/ ______/ If you are late to a game you will sit out the first quarter of that game. ALL dancers are required to arrive ½ hour before game. They must arrive an hour before a performance.
______/ ______/ Job schedules, Dr. appts, social plans, and other school activities; i.e. musicals, athletics, plays, singing groups, etc., cannot and will not interfere with practices, games and event assignments. IF YOU MISS OR LEAVE PRACTICE EARLY YOU ARE REMOVED FROM THIS PERFORMANCE. Make carpool arrangements early – that is not an excuse to miss rehearsal.
______/ ______/ A calendar will be provided for all meetings, practices, and games that we post on SHUTTERFLY. Attendance is required. Tutoring is the ONLY excused reason for missing practice or a meeting. If you miss a meeting or practice because of tutoring, you must have a written pass from the teacher you were with including the date, times, and a signature.
______/ ______/ Tardiness to meetings, practice, or games will result in being asked to leave the rehearsal (coaches decision based on how much rehearsal time was missed). Leaving a rehearsal early because of a sibling. Parent or carpool issue is NOT excused & will result in being pulled from the next performance.
______/ ______/ If you are not allowed to participate in practice or games because of a medical reason, you MUST submit a doctor’s note. You also need another doctor’s note stating you are able to participate again.
______/ ______/ You will only wear your uniform on approved game days. Everyone on that squad must be wearing the same items or you will be benched. No part of your uniform can be worn on non-game days unless approved by the coaches. The uniform has been approved by administration for game days only and the dress code is very specific. If you cannot follow the uniform guidelines you will be dismissed from the squad. Uggs and other non-uniform shoes should NEVER be worn with the uniform, at any time. If you give your items to a friend to wear it will be taken from that friend & you will NOT receive this item back. It is for YOU & YOU alone.
______/ ______/ Disrespect toward a coach or a teammate will not be tolerated. You will be given a warning – if it continues you will be removed. We are a TEAM & will respect each other.
______/ ______/ Grades will be checked online by Mrs. Segraves at the following times: Progress, Quarter, Progress, & Semester. You must have a 2.5 to be eligible. If you have lower than a 2.5, you will not be allowed to participate in any practices, events, or games for 2 weeks.
______/ ______/ If you are ineligible for 2 consecutive grade checks or 3 non-consecutive checks throughout the year, you will not be allowed to tryout for the next year’s spirit squad.
______/ ______/ Participants must be in compliance with the Attendance, Behavior, and Discipline Policy guidelines required to remain eligible to participate. Repeat violations could affect your ability to try out for the next year’s dance team. Students placed on Strict probation will not participate in dance activities. Personal issues/conflicts NOT relating to dance are to be addressed with the school/deans not the coaches.
