The Santa Maria-Bonita School District is accepting applications for:

Custodian I/Carpet Crew

Custodian I/Carpet Crew Substitute

Applicants may fill out one application to apply for both positions.

CUSTODIAN I/CARPET CREW / CUSTODIAN I/CARPET CREW SUBSTITUTE
Salary: / $16.53 per hour to start / Salary: / $14.05 per hour
Hours: / 8 hours per day
2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
12 months per year / Hours: / 8 hours per day
2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m.
On-call 12 months per year
Duties: / Maintain an assigned school facility a group of buildings, or office space in a clean, orderly, and secure manner following a predetermined schedule; perform duties related to carpet and floor maintenance.
Refer to the attached job description for more information. / Duties: / Provide custodial/carpet cleaning assistance to sites whose regular carpet crew is off work.
Experience

To apply, complete the application form and attach a copy of a current DMV printout and a copy of verification of your level of education (high school diploma or transcripts showing graduation date; GED certificate; Adult Education diploma; etc.)

SELECTION PROCESS:

The applications are reviewed to determine those candidates who meet position qualifications. Qualified candidates are invited to take a written test. Those qualified applicants who have a test score of 70% or above are placed on an eligibility list for interview. Interviews are scheduled when there is a vacancy to be filled.

The District is required by law to obtain the results of a criminal history check from the Department of Justice before an applicant can be offered work. If selected to fill an open position, the District will send the candidate to be fingerprinted. The applicant is also sent for a physical examination at District expense. If the applicant receives clearance to work, then he/she may be hired.

CUSTODIAN I/CARPET CREW

BASIC FUNCTION

Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, maintain an assigned school facility a group of buildings, or office space in a clean, orderly, and secure manner following a predetermined schedule; perform duties related to carpet and floor maintenance.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES

Sweep, mop, strip, wax and seal floorsE; drive to assigned school sites as assigned by the positionE; vacuum rugs and carpetsE; remove stains, soiled areas and gum as assigned utilizing appropriate chemicals and equipmentE; dust, wash and polish furniture and woodworkE; perform detailed cleaning as requiredE; clear or empty furniture to clean and sanitize surfacesE; pick up paper and other debris from school grounds, walk areas, and the areas adjacent to the school facilitiesE; empty and clean waste receptacles, including trash barrelsE; clean and disinfect restrooms utilizing assigned chemicals and equipmentE; wash windows and wallsE; shampoo, steam clean carpeting as requiredE; sweep concrete surfaces adjacent to the school buildingsE; move and arrange furniture and equipment in preparing multipurpose rooms or classrooms for special events or meetings; move furniture to clean carpets or floor surfacesE; clean chalkboards as assigned; replace light bulbs and light tubes; perform emergency clean-up service resulting from breakage, vandalism or flooding; lock and unlock gates and doors as required; set security system as required; perform minor maintenance tasks in keeping assigned areas safe and operational as required; perform routine grounds maintenance functions as required; assist in reporting and preventing facility vandalism; requisition and maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and equipment; maintain equipment and supplies in proper condition; clean equipment as needed; perform related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:

Basic cleaning methods, procedures and techniques; Cleaning materials, supplies and equipment; Safe working methods and procedures.

Ability to:

Perform moderately heavy manual activities; Efficiently and effectively use cleaning materials, supplies, and equipment; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to: Graduation from High School and six months of experience involved with the care and cleaning of buildings and facilities.

LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Valid California driver's license (for assignment on Deep Cleaning/Carpet Cleaning/Floor and multiple location assignments); Insurability by the District's liability insurance carrier.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environment:

Indoor/outdoor/adverse weather environments; Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors; Evening or variable hours; Driving a vehicle to conduct work as assigned.

Physical Abilities:

Lifting or moving heavy objects; Pushing or pulling; Kneeling or crouching; Bending at the waist; Standing for extended periods of time; Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally; Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate assigned equipment; Hearing and speaking to exchange information.

Hazards:

Cleaning chemicals.
