Partner updates from OCCD Trainer Program and Registry
TWG Update
Changes to the statewide Training Calendar
The countdown has started! The ability to register and verify training hours in the statewide training calendar is changing. By the end of the September, newly scheduled events will need to be published before registrants can be entered and verified. This change will help ensure the information entered in to ORO is accurate and save valuable staff and provider time. The ORTP will be publishing five days a week in order to support this change.
TRNG Update
Plans for TRNG Support
We are still planning to have a TRNG community of practice model, however we are working on a needs assessment that will be sent out to certified trainers to find out what supports and resources would be most useful for them. We will also be asking what method is best to keep them connected and informed. The phone community of practice calls were great, but we want to find out if our trainers have other ideas. Watch for this needs assessment in the next couple of months.
Online Training Session Proposal Form
We continue to receive successful training session proposal submissions on the new Oregon Registry Trainer Program online training session proposal form. We have received great feedback and are ironing out the bugs that trainers are helping to discover. We are adding new instructions for completing the session proposal form which will complement instructions found in the hovers.
All trainers and Sponsoring Organizations are encouraged to use the online version. If you need any assistance in accessing or completing the form, please contact the Oregon Registry Trainer Program team at 503-725-8535 or e-mail us at . A paper version is still available upon request. We welcome your feedback as we engage in the pilot of the online system.
Supporting the Development of Trainers and Trainings in diverse languages
Everyone is working on increasing trainers and trainings that are both culturally responsive and language specific. We will have greater collective impact as we all focus on this effort together.
This year’s ELD work plan includes some major activities to address this effort, the most pressing is getting the basic required health and safety training, the early learning standards and the RRCAN training up on line in all 5 languages (English, Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese and Chinese). Also, related to these trainings is an accommodation packet which will allow for individualization if there are problems for folks in accessing the required trainings.
Other subgoals that we are working on over the next year include:
● Conducting an inventory of existing Set Two and Set Three trainings in diverse languages across Core Knowledge Categories so we can identify gaps and inform the work moving forward
● We also plan to identify Master Trainers who train in diverse languages so we can tap into their knowledge and expertise to help inform culturally responsive strategies for exisiting trainings.
● In addition we want to increase availability of training in diverse languages across core knowledge categories by assembling work groups of diverse trainers to develop Set Two and Set Three trainings in diverse languages.
We are exploring additional funding to help support these ideas and more, but this is what we have outlined in our ELD workplan.
We look forward to working with the CCR&Rs and our other partners on this important work. As we flesh out these activities further we will keep the groups informed through our staff who attend these meetings.
