Spring 2009

Introduction To The Stage: Ages 5 to 7*

For those without prior stage experience, this class is designed to acquaint the younger child with the art of theatre. With an emphasis on a supportive, non-threatening approach to performing, the students will have an opportunity to work as a group to discover the joys of the stage. Limit: 8

Wednesdays: 3:40 - 4:55 pm April 8 – May 27 ** Instructor: Jeanna Van Dyke

Beginning Acting: Ages 8 to 12*

For the young actor, this class is a first step in learning the skills of performance. Through the use of theatre games, exercises, and improvisation, the student will have the opportunity to learn the basics of the stage and take the first steps to creating a role. Limit: 12

Tuesdays: 3:40 - 5:10 pm April 7 – May 26** Instructor: Jeanna Van Dyke

Intermediate Acting: Ages 12 to 16*

Designed for the young actor with previous experience, this class emphasizes the strengthening of acting skills and explores the basics of character development.
The spring session will focus on auditioning skills. Students will learn how to apply their skills to the audition process; how to select and prepare monologues or scenes; how to make choices at a cold read.
There will also be a section in which we discuss practical information: How to dress, when and when not to speak, how to relate to the auditioners, resume and photo tips and more.
Each student will leave the class with at least one solid monologue.

Tuesdays: 5:15 - 6:45 pm April 7 – May 26** Instructor: Scott Malcolm

Rehearsal and Performance: Ages 8 to 16*

From auditions through rehearsals and on to performance, this class is designed to provide young actors the full experience of being in a scripted play.

Pre-requisite: Students must have previously taken Beginning acting through Theatre In The Grove’s School of Theatre Arts. Limit: 8

Thursdays: 3:40 - 5:40 April 9 – May 28** Instructor: Jeanna Van Dyke
