Second Batch Admission
New Year! New batch of students! New faces! New member of staff! All are new in GCCN. After a long time of hard work and effort we have accomplished a lot in 2010 and started the year 2011 with new hopes and goals to achieve.
40 new students got admitted in the session 2010-2011. They have already started their classes and activities. Now GCCN has total 78 students which include the two batches of Diploma in Nursing students.
First Batch Return to College
After a long vacation all the students of first year came back in GCCN on 15th January 2011. They all had a wonderful winter vacation back at home with good food and friends and family. They have also started their classes and activities.
Two Hostel
There was only one hostel in Grameen training centre for the students of GCCN. But now with the increase in the number of students we have twohostels for the students of GCCN. One is the Grameen Bank Campus and another one is nearby Grameen Bank. The new Hostel’s name is “SHUKAYNNA” The environment of the hostels is great. The 2nd year students are now residing in “SHUKAYNNA” and 1st year students are hostel in Grameen Bnak Campus.
Japanese Guests visiting GCCN
Tomomi Kameoka,RN,DNSc (Professor, Nursing education) came on 2011/Jan/16 and she left Dhaka on 2011/Jan/27.Mayumi Shimizu,RN,MW,MPH (Associate Professor,
International nursing) came on 2011/Jan/16 and left on 2011/Feb/2. They came from NCN, Japan to help the academic staff members of GCCN with their teaching. They held a Teaching Methodology workshop for the academic staff of GCCN on 22 January 2011. The college authority and all staff members appreciated their help and presence at GCCN.
Botanical Garden Visit of the New Students
The Second Batch Students visited the Botanical Garden in Mirpur on 15/01/2011. All of our students came from the rural area of the country. Most of the students came out for first time away from home. They do not know about the city life. Many of them were sad and homesick. To refresh their mind GCCN decided to take their students for a visit at the Botanical Garden. All the academic staff members went with them. There they enjoyed a lot. It was a great refreshment and recreation for them.
Parents Day
With great joy GCCN celebrated the Annual Parents Day on 16 January 2011. It was for the parents and family members of the First Year Students. The response was good from the parent’s side. They joined the party and shared their opinion. They were very happy and satisfied about their daughter’s career path and hopeful about their future. Their expression was very positive towards the activities of GCCN.
Library Orientation:
On 10th January 2011 GCCN Library arranged an Orientation program for the 2nd batch students.This program helps the students to Sharing Resources and Appropriate use of materials and service in the library. The second session of this program was held on 20th January 2011. The students of 1st batch and some remaining
students of 2nd batch were attended there. This program will be continuing for every new batch.
Student Association:
The first formal meeting of GCCN Student Association took place in GCCN premises on 19th January 2011. All the members attended this meeting. Though the meeting was for a short time but it was meaningful and productive. The following agenda were discussed in the meeting:
1. To develop AOP(Annual Operation Plan)
2. Association's TOR/Constitution review
2. Finance management.
3. AOB:
a) Winter games
b) Association's Office space
c) Integration ceremony of new students
d) Next meeting
Training and workshop:
a)Training and workshop helps an individualto learn new things which is always helpful for his carrier. GCCN always tries to provide this kind of training and workshop for the employee. This time GCCN arranged a very special workshop named “Train the trainer course for Critical Care”. Not only the GCCN staff but also the staffs of our Partner Organizations joined the training. The Training held on 6th, 7th and 8th February 2011 from 8.30 am to 4 pm. Two specialists - one (Mr. Paul Preston MD, Department of Anesthesia , San Francisco Medical Center), for Anesthesia and another (Ms Connie Lopez, RNC, MSN, CNS, National Leader, Simulation-based Education & Training, Kaiser Permanente, USA) for Critical Care of nursing will come from America . The participants get training from here and they can train up more staff in future.
b) Another workshop was held in GCCN for the admin staff on 5th Feb. 2011. This workshop was organized by Ms. Rafia Muntasira, Acting Head of Admin. All the admin staff participate this workshop. The workshop was very productive. It will help all staff to go ahead properly in future for fulfilling their job responsibilities.
New members of Staff :
Slowly GCCN is growing into a big organization. Asits students are increasing, works are also increasing and for this reason to balance the workload of each employee new members of staff have joined GCCN. In this regards the following employees joined GCCN family. They are:

Wishing:
Wishing is a great inspiration for human being. In this regard GCCN decided to wish all its staff and students on their birthday. We already celebrated and wished some members of GCCN. With great joy and happiness GCCN celebrated Birth Day Party of Prof. Parfitt, Principal of GCCN. Prof. Parfitt treated everyone with a big cake for all. Every one enjoyed a lot on this party. Prof. Prfitt wasalsovery happy.
Upcoming Events:
The big upcoming event is now the Capping Ceremony on the 1st March 2011. All are busy now to arrange for this program.
Upcoming Guest:
Dr. Yoko Shimpuku and Ms. Junko Tashiro will come to visit GCCN on 23rd February. They will visit GCCN for 3 days and will go back on 27th Feb 2011.
