Jockey Club Estates

  • Jockey Club Estates is the Jockey Club's property and land management company.
  • It is responsible for the management and administration of 4500 acres of land at Newmarket and 550 acres of land at Lambourn. The property portfolio includes 90 properties, including the Jockey Club Rooms.
  • Jockey Club Estates is owned by the Members of the Jockey Club and the profits generated by the company are reinvested into improving and developing facilities under its management.

The principle objectives of Jockey Club Estates are the continued development of its training grounds as centres of excellence for the training of thoroughbred racehorses, and the running of the Jockey Club Rooms in a commercial manner whilst protecting and promoting the Club’s heritage.

Training Grounds

Over the last decade, Jockey Club Estates has made a substantial investment in the training facilities at Newmarket. As a result, the town is recognised internationally as the centre of excellence for the training of racehorses. There are over seventy trainers based in the town who regularly use the Jockey Club’s training grounds and during the spring and summer there are over 2,400 horses using the gallops.

The purchase of the public training grounds in Lambourn at the start of 2006 represented one of the most significant developments in the history of Jockey Club Estates, as for the first time the company took on the responsibility of managing property outside of Newmarket.

Since purchasing the Mandown Gallops a number of major improvements have been carried out including the complete refurbishment of two gallops and new horsewalks, as well as many other smaller improvements. Since taking on the Lambourn gallops the number of trainers regularly using the facilities managed by Jockey Club Estates has increased and there are now around 400 horses using the facilities each month.

Property Portfolio

The property portfolio of Jockey Club Estates includes 90 residential and commercial properties, two studs, twelve leasehold training yards and the Jockey Club Rooms. Freehold property also includes the Rowley Mile and July Racecourses, the National Stud, the NationalHorseracingMuseum, the Links Golf Course and farmland.

In addition to the Members of the Jockey Club, who number around 140, there are over 500 Members of the Rooms who have access to the accommodation and dining options available at the Rooms.

Newmarket Carcass Collection Scheme

Since January 2007, the business portfolio of Jockey Club Estates diversified further as the company took over the management of the Carcass Collection scheme in Newmarket.

This is an important and valued service to both breeders and trainers based in and around the town. A separate department within Jockey Club Estates has been established to oversee the operation, which complements the company’s overall aim to serve the racing and breeding industry to the best of its abilities.
