Project Grant Report
Every grant is a learning opportunity, both for the grantee and for the Foundation. One of our greatest interests is in learning about the insight gained during your grant period. Few projects go exactly as planned, and your candor in reporting is appreciated. We also strongly encourage you to revisit your previous proposal when completing this report.
Please forward the completed Report via email only to Julie Hester, for Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bay projects or Anna Lindgren, for Pacific Region projects.

Threats/Opportunities (5-10 sentences maximum)
Please describe how you took advantage of any threats (factors with a negative affect) or opportunities (factors with a positive effect) discussed in your proposal.
Examples: (Threat) By highlighting the exponential growth of fishing boats, we were able to create a campaign that reflected the urgency of the crisis, which led to a more stringent fisheries management policy; (Opportunity) We leveraged our longstanding relationship with the city council to enact a plastic bag ban.
Contributing Factors (5-10 sentences maximum)
Have there been any changes in the social, economic, or political factors that enable or add to the persistence of the threats you have identified?
Examples: There was an outbreak of disease in farmed shrimp, so demand for wild shrimp increased by 300%; A coalition of churches launched a campaign against fracking, so there was an increase in rural support
Objectives (5-10 sentences maximum)
Please list the one to three year objectives as discussed in your proposal. Describe any movement (forward or backward) towards achieving your objectives.
Examples: The Water Quality Control Board adopted an updated regulatory program, so we are now focusing on enforcing that program; A lead stakeholder pulled out of the negotiations, so they collapsed
Goals (5-10 sentences maximum)
Have you reevaluated the project’s three to five year goals? What lead to that change?
Examples: No, our project goals remain the same; Since the negotiations collapsed, we are no longer trying to develop a long-term solution for managing water in the Colorado River Basin, but rather, trying to assess how to re-engage the stakeholders
Strategies (5-10 sentences maximum)
Please list the strategies you discussed on your proposal. Have your strategies changed? If so, why?
Examples: All our volunteers retired, so we no longer do citizen water quality monitoring, and are instead filing a lawsuit against the city; The agency refused to adopt stricter standards, so rather than pursuing that, we are focusing our efforts on bringing public attention to the most egregious violators of the current standards
Lessons Learned (5-10 sentences maximum)
What disappointments or surprises did you experience during the grant period? Please describe some of the lessons learned as a result.
Examples: Our relationship with our corporate partner proved far more difficult than anticipated, so we learned that is important to have a formal written agreement that outlines expectations; We were taken aback that so many lawsuits were filed against the implementation of our plan, so we increased our budget legal support
Actions/Timeline
Please provide an updated version of the timeline that you provided with your proposal that indicates the actual timeline that occurred, explaining any significant variances.
Examples: The committee delayed its review of the conservation plan because funding was cut from the program; The defendant appealed the decision
Evaluation
You are welcome to include as an attachment any diagrams or tables you have developed that address the below questions, rather than providing a narrative.
Indicators
Please list how the levels of your indicators changed. Did they shift as expected? Why?
Examples: Five cities had plastic ban bags, and now, ten cities do because we were able to demonstrate to business owners that it did not reduce sales; We had projected that 250,000 square miles would be designated as a critical enforcement area, but only 75,000 square miles were approved. We attribute this to higher than expected pressure from shipping companies.
Audiences
Please provide examples of actions that were taken by your audience that supported your objectives.
Examples: California state officials held a hearing; Recreational fishermen supported the management plan; Mom bloggers organized a boycott of the product
