Job Title: Assistant Principal

Department/Building: High School

Reports To: High School Principal

Contract: Administrative—43 week contract

POSITION FUNCTION/PURPOSE:

Assist the school principal in overall administration of senior high school instructional program and campus level operations. Coordinate assigned student activities and services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

1.)  Assist in the planning, development, organization, coordination, and supervision of senior high school instructional programs and activities including curriculum development, program and activity development, design and delivery of processes, and the development of implementation strategies.

2.)  Perform needs assessments, feasibility planning, and a variety of other research and development functions and activities, as assigned.

3.)  Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.

4.)  Advise, counsel, and assist instruction, support, and ancillary personnel in problem solving activities pertaining to student behavior management, shaping, and control problems, and in the determination of alternative solutions.

5.)  Review, inspect, audit, and evaluate student attendance processes and procedures, and recommend process improvements to ensure effective and efficient school operations.

6.)  Promote the effective use of technology in the teaching/learning process.

7.)  Coordinate and supervise the online learning program and seat-time waiver program.

8.)  Assist principal in the development, maintenance, and use of information systems to maintain records to track progress of campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.

9.)  Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.

10.) Supervise monitoring and reporting of student attendance, and work with attendance secretary on follow-up investigations.

11.) Work with department chairpersons and faculty to compile annual budget requests based upon documented program needs.

12.) Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment; check inventory; maintain records; and verify receipt of materials.

13.) Coordinate transportation, custodial, cafeteria, and other support services as needed.

14.) Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and Board of Education policies and procedures.

15.) Ensure adequate supervision of students during non-instructional periods.

16.) Help to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.

17.) Conduct conferences on student and school issues with parents, students, and staff.

18.) Perform all other tasks and duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Serve as assistant supervisor for professional staff to the school principal. Supervise teachers, custodians, paraprofessionals, clerical personnel, and other assigned staff.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE - A Master's Degree in Educational Leadership is preferred with experience as a teacher for a minimum of five years.

SKILLS - The successful candidate should have (a) strong verbal and written communication skills, (b) strong logic and problem solving skills, and (c) exemplify respect and collaboration with students, staff, and community.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS - The successful candidate should have a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate and a valid Michigan School Administrator Certificate.
