Summative Assessment - Exit Interview Questions
Your Summative Assessment represents 5% of your total mark. It is important to prepare carefully for the interview and to be available at the time of the interview. There will be no “second chance” unless documentation for a medical situation is received. Use the rubric provided, your notes and your textbook to prepare. At the interview you choose 2 questions to discard(your choice) then randomly select 2 questions to answer from the 6 remaining.
Questions
- Explain the current theory of the origin of the universe, including the evidence that supports this theory. Describe the process of nuclear fusion. Explain the classification of stars and what type our Sun is. Describe the formation of our solar system (and it various parts).
- If you were a scientist joining a team of paleontologists and travelling to a part of the world you have not previously visited, describe the type of information you would research in advance, and why, in order to prepare yourself for the investigation.
- Using several different types of geological forces and events, explain the formation of the Rocky Mountains and Coast Mountains of Western North America over time. Be very specific in your identification of the types of mountains, the forces that created each and the effects of those forces; explain precisely the sequence of events in their formation.
- Explain the various ways that glaciers modify the landscape. Include the effect on mountains, valleys, within the glacier, at the margins (edges) of glaciers, the earth’s crust, and water. Explain what happens (how the area is affected) after the glacier retreats.
- Identify the concerns with farming in each of the areas listed below. If they exist, explain any solutions for the concerns identified. Describe the difficulties associated with adopting better agricultural practices.

- The surface of the Earth is not flat and it continues to change all the time. Explain,in detail, why by identifying the various forces and processes that act on the crust to change it.
- Water is a very precious and limited resource on Earth. Discuss where water and what type of water is found on the planet including freshwater supplies. Humans and other organisms rely on fresh water but our use has the biggest impact on water supplies. Describe the demands humans place on water including global and local water budgets. What demands need to be balanced? What are some of the concerns with water conservation and aquifer recharge?
- The Earth is old and has changed over time. What evidence is there for the age of the Earth? What mechanisms change the shape of continents over time? How has our model of the changing Earth and geological time developed? Include the Theories of Continental Drift, Plate Tectonics and Uniformatarianism in your answer.
