SUBJECT:July Symposium – Building Networks for Learning
______
The Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat (LNS) is continuing its commitment to support district school boards in their efforts to improve student achievement. The focus for this year’s symposium on “Building Networks for Learning” is a natural evolution ofthe coaching institute we have benefited from in past years. On July 3rd and 4th, 2008, the LNS will offer two full days of learning and sharing effective practices related to teaching-learning networks. Over the two days the sessions will:
- Develop knowledge and skills related to teaching-learning networks
- Provide specific input on the high yield strategies which are integral to teaching-learning networks
- Show how teaching-learning networks facilitate school improvement planning
- Support more focused board improvement planning
- Demonstrate alignment between the School Effectiveness Framework and teaching-learning networks
- Demonstrate the power of networks to improve student learning
- Facilitate focussed conversation across schools and boards
- Provide information related to the role of supervisory officers in supporting the building and maintenance of effective networks
The following groups are the intended audience for this symposium: Directors of Education, Superintendents of Curriculum, Superintendents of Schools, School Effectiveness Leads, Principals of Program, school principals, consultants and coordinators. Although participation in the July symposium is voluntary, we are aware of the growing interest in teaching-learning networks.
The LNS will cover the travel (the most cost-effective mode of travel must be chosen), accommodation and meals at the symposium for the following maximum number of participants per board:
Fewer than 30,000 students: 4 participants
30,001 to 75,000 students: 6 participants
Greater than 75,001 students: 10 participants
Location of the Symposium:
Sheraton Centre Hotel
123 Queen Street West
Toronto, ON M5H 2M9
Please do not contact the hotel for reservations. LNS will establish a rooming list for participants who live more than 125 km. from the hotel.
You are asked to forward the names of your participants, based on the formula, on one registration form.
Please forward names by Monday, May 12, 2008 to Tayo McEwen at . If you have any questions or comments, please contact Patricia Manson at or Judith Taylor at .
Sincerely,
Ann Perron
