Title:LKH Open College Principal

Location:Luther King House, Brighton Grove, Manchester M14 5JP

Reports to:The President

Nature of the Role:Membership of Open College is given to all those who study at LKH but who are not part of one of its constituent denominational colleges. In recent years, Open College has grown in numbers – especially at undergraduate level – andthe Principal is a key person in giving identity and leadership to its work, and in offering support to its students. The Principal is part of the senior management structures of LKH, and makes a full contribution to the delivery of the teaching programmes at all levels.

Main Responsibilities:

  1. Leadership of Open College
  • To give strategic direction and leadership to the on-going development of LKHOC, shaping its distinctive life as an ecumenical community.
  • To promote the educational opportunities offered by LKHOC.
  • To manage the work of LKHOC, including admissions procedures, oversight of student learning and development, internal organisation and discipline, and annual budgeting.
  • To ensure that all LKHOC undergraduate students are given appropriate tutorial and educational support.
  • To act as line manager for any LKHOC associate staff.
  • To develop the wider engagement of LKHOC with local churches and communities, including opportunities for learning that deepen both faith and spirituality.
  1. Teaching and Learning
  • To provide teaching and supervision within the academic programmes offered by Luther King House.
  • To contribute to the leadership and development of its academic programmes, including the provision of access level learning.
  • To participate in the work of maintaining and enhancing academic standards and quality, including involvement in the Programme Committees.
  • To maintain personal expertise in his or her academic area,including personal research, writing and participation in academic conferences.
  1. The Life of LKH
  • To promote and demonstrate the values of LKH expressed in its ethos statement.
  • To nurture and sustain the spiritual life of LKH, including its shared worship.
  • To contribute to the leadership of Luther King House as one of the college Principals, including membership of the Management Team.
  • To undertake such other responsibilities as may from time to time be reasonably assigned.
