Regulations on Academic Publication Standards for Application to Xiamen University

for Master’s and Doctor’s Degrees

In order to further standardize the work of degree awarding, to coordinate the four-year reform of doctoral students, to implement “the overall plan to promote world-class universities and first-class discipline construction” in postgraduate education, aiming at world-class goals, cultivating first-class talents and producing first-class achievements, now referring to the “Xiamen University’s Academic Requirements for Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) Degree Application on Academic Publication” (XMU Graduate School Regulation [2014] #31), the applicant for the award of PhD degree and in Software School need to meet the following academic prerequisites:

The applicant’s research achievements must be innovated and have considerable academic value and contribution. The main research content must be informative with feasible technical route. The plagiarism is forbidden, and the principle error must be avoided.

The first affiliation of the applicant’s academic paper for the degree must be Software School, Xiamen University. Without special instructions, the applicant student should be the first author, or be the second author while his/her supervisor being the first author.

Academic Prerequisites for PhD degree

1.  In addition to the required credits and training, an applicant for the PhD degree in Computer Science and Technology discipline must meet the minimum academic requirements detailed below: publish at least 3 SCI journal papers, including at least 1 paper in a highly acknowledged journal in the subject, and at least 1 CCF-listed journal paper. For applicant majored in Computer Science and Technology discipline, at least one paper must be published in China Computer Federation (CCF)-listed journals. For PhD degree applicant whose academic work is supported by engineering project with over one million of funding, the minimum requirement is as follows: publish 1 SCI journal paper, 1 EI journal paper supported by the project, and be granted with 1 patent.

For PhD student majoring in Computer Science and Technology discipline, 1 CCF A-class conference paper is equivalent to 2 SCI journal paper. 1 JCR-1 journal paper is equivalent to 3 SCI journal papers. 1 JCR-2 journal paper is equivalent to 2 SCI journal papers. One or more academic papers published on Chinese Journal of Computers or Journal of Software account for only one SCI journal paper.

2.  The applicant’s papers should be relevant to his/her PhD dissertation and should each exceed 3000 words in general.

3.  An applicant must complete his/her degree application within six years after passing the defense.

4.  The SCI journal paper is treated as published once its DOI number can be verified.

5.  This document comes into effect for students enrolled in 2016 and thereafter.

Academic Prerequisites for Master degree

1.  In addition to the required credits and training, an applicant for Master degree in Computer Science and Technology discipline and Software Engineering discipline and Digital Media Engineering discipline must meet the minimum academic requirements detailed below: publish at least 1 SCI or EI journal paper; or 1 CCF C-class conference paper or 1 EI international conference paper; or 1 Journal paper from The General List of Core Chinese Journals issued by Xiamen University; or 1 national patent (published).

2.  An applicant must complete his/her degree application within four years after passing the defense.

3.  The SCI journal paper is treated as published once its DOI number can be verified.

4.  This document comes into effect for students enrolled in 2016 and thereafter.
