Alternative Break Participant Application Information

  • Application materials must be submitted via e-mail by October 16th to
  • Candidates will be notified via e-mail if they have been selected for interviews
  • Interviews will be conducted October 19-23
  • Each participant will be assessed $250 for housing, transportation, food stipend, insurance, and administrative fees

Alternative Break Participant Requirements

The Winter Alternative Break takes place from Sunday, Jan. 3 – Friday, Jan. 8, 2016

Participating in the Alternative Breaks program requires an average of 2 hours a week from

October 28 – December 11, 2015

-Attend all pre and post break meetings and trainings

  • 4 team meetings
  • 1 individual meeting with your site leaders
  • 1 all-day service-learning intensive on Sunday, November 15 from 1-5pm
  • 1 post break reflection

-Pre/Post break engagement

  • Be prepared for all team meetings
  • Foster an openness to creating and sharing new thoughts and ideas
  • Help support your team’s mission and vision of service and learning

-On-break engagement

  • Bring an open mind and be ready to listen authentically to the service partners and your team mates
  • Maintain an open line of communication with your site leaders
  • Be ready to be flexible and support the site leaders when things to not go as planned
  • Support and encourage fellow team members throughout the week
