Model KCAL, KCPL & KCAC Fixed-Blade Acoustic Louvers

RECOMMENDED SPECIFICATION

1.01  GENERAL-

A.  Furnish and install Kinetics Noise Control models KCAL, KCPL and KCAC, fixed-blade acoustic louvers of the type and size shown on the plans and/or listed in the schedule.

B.  Manufacturer: Acoustic louvers shall be the product of Kinetics Noise Control, Inc., 6300 Irelan Place, Dublin OH 43017.

2.01  MATERIALS-

A.  Models KCAL, KCPL and KCAC: Outer casings of fixed-blade acoustic louvers shall be manufactured of not less than 18 gauge; lock former quality galvanized steel, Type G90.

B.  Interior acoustic blades for acoustic, fixed-blade louvers shall be manufactured of not less than 22 gauge, properly stiffened to ensure structural integrity; lock form quality, perforated steel, galvanized steel, Type G90.

C.  Acoustically absorptive fill shall be of a proper density to obtain the specified acoustic performance and be packed under not less than 5% compression to eliminate voids due to vibration and settling. Material shall be inorganic, inert, vermin and suitable for wet/dry, freeze/thaw cycling.

D.  Combustion ratings for fixed-blade acoustic louvers including acoustic fill shall not be greater than the following when tested to ASTM E 84, NFPA Standard 255, or UL No. 723:

Flame spread Classification ………….20

Smoke Development Rating ………….20

3.01  CONSTRUCTION-

A.  Units shall be constructed in accordance with SMACNA standards for the wind load and exposure application specified for the application. Seams shall be locked formed or spot welded as required. Interior acoustic blades shall be fabricated from perforated sheets of the shape so as to provide the maximum aerodynamic efficiency and minimum self-noise characteristics of the acoustic louver.

B.  Fixed-blade acoustic louvers shall not fail structurally when subjected to wind load and weather.

C.  Width, height and depth of fixed-blade acoustic louvers shall match the dimensions shown on the plans and/or listed in the schedule. Alternative sizes are not allowed.

3.02  FACTORY FINISH –

A.  Galvanized Steel, mill finish, Type G90 all welds to be factory coated with ZRC paint.

B.  Aluminum, mill finish,

C.  Stainless steel, Types 304 and 316, 2B finish.

D.  Powder-Coat finish per selection of Kinetics Noise Control standard colors.

4.01  ACOUSTIC PERFORMANCE-

A.  All fixed-blade acoustic louver ratings shall be determined in a an independent, nationally recognized, NVLAP accredited laboratory that provides for airflow and sound through the test acoustic louver in accordance with ASTM Specification E-90, Laboratory Measurement of Airborne Sound Transmission Loss of Building Partitions . The test set-up and procedure shall be such that all effects due to end reflection, directivity, and flanking transmission standing waves and test chamber sound absorption are eliminated.

5.01 SUBMITTALS-

A.  The manufacturer shall supply AutoCAD submittals specific to the model KCAL, KCPL and KCAC, fixed-blade acoustic louver installed conditions. The submittals shall include the overall acoustic louver dimensions and module quantity and sizes, an actual picture detailing baffle location and quantities, noise reduction, silencer pressure loss and construction and piece-marking.

6.01 ACCESSORIES-

A.  Bird Screen – shall be 1 x 1 x 14 gage welded supplied and factory installed

B.  Flanges for Mounting – shall be designed and supplied per application conditions can be shipped loose or welded to louvers as project requires.
