LMC Library Guide to placing Links to Library Articles,

eBooks and Streaming Videos into your D2L Course Site

Identify LMC Library Electronic Resources that you would like to share with your class.

1.  Go to the LMC webpage: http://www.losmedanos.edu/

2.  Click on the Library link in the top banner or start here http://www.losmedanos.edu/library/

3.  Click on the Electronic Resources link on the left side of the page.


4.  Please contact any of your LMC librarians to get help finding resources to support your class.

Identify the correct link to post in your Desire 2 Learn class site.

In order for the links to work, you will need to use the "persistent link" which includes LMC’s proxy information. This allows remote users access to view library resources. Even though they have already logged in to D2L, remote users will be automatically prompted to log in to the library in order to gain access to view the posted material.

Please note this screen is asking for last name and student ID or employee ID number.

(If you do not know your employee ID, look on your paycheck or ask a Library staff person to look it up for you.)

All electronic resources provide persistent links, but they are found in different places based on the vendor.

Gale / InfoTrac Newsstand / “Document URL” is listed at the bottom of the article.
National Geographic Virtual Library / Copying the URL from address bar works, but is very long. If you click on “Citation and Tools” from the right column, a tiny url is provided.
InfoBase Publishing / Films on Demand / To embed a video within your course site, select the entire film or segment you wish to embed. Click the “Embed this video” link directly below the video. Copy the text listed under “Alternate Embedded Code.” To link to videos, copy the “Title URL” which appears at the bottom of the page.
Los Medanos College / The Experience / Copy the URL from address bar.
Oxford University Press / Oxford Art Online / Copy the URL from address bar.
ProQuest / Ethnic News Watch / Copy the URL from address bar or copy the “Document URL” from the Indexing Details area at the bottom of the article.

Entering Content into Desire2Learn

Linking to Articles

1.  Open your Desire2Learn course site.

2.  Click on Course Materials pull down menu.

3.  Click on Links.

4.  Select or create a new category for where you want your link to go.

5.  Type in a Title for your link.

6.  Paste the URL from the Library resource.

7.  Click Preview to make sure it works.

8.  Be sure to leave the open in new window box checked.

9.  Save.
