a) BST 160 Long Recertification for Category C1

Discussion:

* Tabled on 3/14/2006, corrections suggested (see minutes). The department addressed the suggestion; course will be taught by new professor

* Skill development section added, but maybe needs to be moved to a better place.

* Must also point out that students will get early feedback on writing.

* Question on assessment of outcomes paragraph – what does ‘various demonstration of competences’ mean? Must be rewritten or taken out.

* Future syllabi must be changed to conform to the standard course outline – i.e., cannot have more than 30% of the grade come from one assignment; add plagiarism and disabilities policies statements.

*Minor editing in justifications section.

Motion to approve BST 160 passed pending recommended changes.

b) BST 363 Long Recertification for Category C1

Discussion:

*Tabled on 3/14/2006, corrections suggested (see minutes).Department made corrections.

*Under Methods of Assessment more outcomes are listed – and they seem different.

*In Expected Outcomes – Points e) and i) are not clear, what critical thinking skills are developed? How are they different?

*Change in e) suggested: “Analyze critically different styles of art…”

*Expected Outcomes and Methods of Assessment must be re-evaluated and re-written.

* Future syllabi must be changed to conform to the standard course outline – i.e., cannot have more than 30% of the grade come from one assignment; add plagiarism and disabilities policies statements; needs statement about foundation courses as prerequisite for this explorations course; change methods of assessment in the syllabus.

3) GEOGRAPHY DEPARTMENT

a) GEOG 321 New General Education Request – Category D2

b) GEOG 322 New General Education Request – Category D2

Discussion:

* Used to be taught as GEOG 320I as a capstone, with GE certification; was split into two courses covering Middle and South American geography;

* Question: What will happen to GEOG 320 (still in the catalog) – department says it will not be offered anymore.

* Cover sheet on both requests must be changed to reflect these are new GE certifications.

* Questions about prerequisites in the catalog; as D2 courses, they cannot have the stated prerequisites in the catalog; must be changed.

Motion to approve GEOG 321 and GEOG 322 for GE and D2 status passed, with recommended changes.

4) ANTHROPOLOGY DEPARTMENT

a) ANTH 353Long Recertification for Category E, New Request for Global, Human Diversity

Discussion:

* Last time recertified 1996; taught by lecturers; department considers it as an important component in medical anthropology track.

* Cannot have both HD (deals only with the United States) and Global (deals with the world) – department must pick.

* Category E and Global preferred by department.

* Minor request corrections suggested – look up the specific language required by GE policies and Global status.

* Must approve it or will be decertified by GEGC.

* Mark Wiley will act for EPCC to finalize the course per suggestions above – department will resubmit within a few weeks.

Motion to approve ANTH 353 for Category E and Global status passed pending changes above.

5) RGRLL DEPARTMENT

a) PORT 201ARequest for Category D2

Discussion:

* Fairly standard language, no representative from the department.

* Recommend trimming the outline.

* Future syllabi must comply with standard university policy, i.e., cannot refuse acceptance of late work, needs plagiarism and disability statements, etc.
