COMPUTER AIDED DRAFTING APPLICATIONS

Course Outline

Learning Outcomes

Course Objectives:

The learning outcomes for this course are consistent with the requirements outlined in the National Occupational Skill Standards, the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Drawing Setup

·  Start a new AutoCAD drawing using a template

·  Set up the drawing environment on a new drawing to include setting the paper size and inserting a border and title block

·  Adjust the grid and snap settings

·  Create and manage drawing layers

·  Construct an orthographic drawing using different layers, colors, linetypes, and lineweights specified by the ANSI standards

·  Use object line, hidden line, and center line linetypes to construct an orthographic drawing

·  Use the properties window to change layers, colors, linetypes, and lineweights of an object

·  Make revisions to a CAD drawing using the erase command and its options

·  Complete an orthographic multiview drawing using the basic draw commands (line, circle, arc, ellipse, polygon)

·  Use the Design Center to copy layers, linetypes, text styles, and dimension styles between drawings

Plotting and Printing

·  Select a plotting device and modify a plotting device configuration to produce a hard copy of a completed CAD drawing

·  Produce a hard copy (print) of a completed CAD drawing

Orthographic Multiview Drawing

·  Use object snap modes to create precision drawings

·  Set running object snap modes for continuous use

·  Use the offset command to draw parallel lines and curves

·  Use the Ortho mode and polar tracking to produce an orthographic drawing

·  Use the OFFSET command to draw parallel lines and curves

·  Divide existing objects into equal lengths using the DIVIDE command

·  Select a point style using the PDMODE system variable

·  Adjust snap grid and UCS settings to construct auxiliary views

·  View specific portions of a drawing using the ZOOM and PAN commands and the Real time zoom and pan functions

·  Add fillets and chamfers to a CAD drawing

·  Make single and multiple copies of existing object using the COPY and MIRROR commands

·  Relocate objects using the MOVE command

·  Use the TRIM and EXTEND command to edit objects

·  Use grips to do automatic editing

·  Edit a CAD drawing using the MATCHPROP command to match object properties

·  Use the PLINE command to draw straight and curved polylines

·  Edit existing polylines using the PEDIT command and the EXPLODE command

·  Insert hatch patters into a drawing using the BHATCH and SOLID commands

·  Use construction lines to assist in drawing orthographic views and auxiliary views

Learning Outcomes

Obtaining Information About the Drawing

·  Use the AREA command to calculate the area of an object by adding and subtracting objects

·  List data related to a single point, object, group of objects, or an entire drawing

·  Find the distance between two points

·  Determine the amount of time spent in a drawing session

Basic Dimensioning Practices and drawing annotation

·  Use the TEXT command and the MTEXT command to create single line text and multiple lines of text on a CAD drawing

·  Create text styles

·  Draw special symbols using control characters

·  Edit existing text including a check for spelling errors

·  Use the dimensioning commands to dimension a drawing to ASME and other drafting standards

·  Control the appearance of dimensions

·  Set the appropriate units and decimal places for dimension numbers

·  Use text size and style consistent with ASME and other professional standards

·  Use the proper character codes to display symbols within dimension text

·  Place general notes on a drawing

·  Draw datum and chain dimensions

·  Dimension curves

·  Dimension objects with arrowless tabular dimensions

·  Create and use dimension styles

·  Create dimension style overrides

·  Make changes to existing dimensions

·  Update a dimension to reflect the current dimension style

·  Import dimension styles from another drawing using the Design Center

·  Use the properties window to edit individual dimension properties

·  Add linear, angular, diameter, and radius dimensions to a CAD drawing

·  Define and use dimensioning and tolerancing terminology

·  Identify different types of tolerance dimensions

·  Create a dimension style with specified tolerance settings

·  Prepare drawings with dimensions and tolerances from engineering designs, sketches, and layouts

·  Identify symbols used in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing

·  Use the TOLERANCE, QLEADER, and LEADER commands to create geometric tolerancing symbols

·  Draw and edit feature control frames

·  Draw datum feature symbols

·  Place basic dimensions on a drawing

·  Dimension a drawing using dual dimensioning
