ALFA ROMEO MULTIAIR ENGINE COLLECTS ANOTHER AWARD
As Alfa Romeo Australia prepares to launch its second version of the MiTo powered by the company’s award-winning MultiAir engine, the innovative technology developed and patented by the Italian car maker has collected yet another award with the influential US magazine ‘Popular Science’ nominating MultiAir technology as “The Best of What’s New 2010.”
Australian car buyers got their first taste of MultiAir in the MiTo QV launched earlier this year as the top version of the compact Alfa Romeo. In December the range-topping 125 kW MiTo will be complemented by a 99 kW version of the MultiAir 1.4 litre engine. Combined with a new TCT Twin Clutch Transmission, the new engine will bring the fuel saving and emission cutting performance of MultiAir to a much wider audience and it is set to become the best selling Alfa Romeo in Australia.
With cylinder-by-cylinder, stroke-by-stoke direct air intake control and without a throttle valve, MultiAir technology cuts fuel consumption and CO2 emissions by up to 10%, while obtaining 10% more power and 15% more torque. Furthermore, careful combustion control also reduces polluting emissions. MultiAir is versatile technology that can easily be applied to all petrol engines. It is also set to be applied to diesel engines.
Earlier, in June this year, the MultiAir 1.4 Turbo fitted to the MiTo QV, the first engine to implement MultiAir technology, won the prestigious European “Engine of the Year” award in the new best engine of the year category, assigned by an international panel of 65 specialist journalists from 32 countries.
Full details of the new Alfa Romeo MiTo MultiAir TCT will be announced when it is launched in December.
