1.  Position overview

The Senior Lecturer of Visual Arts & Indigenous Media Units, is responsible for leading the delivery of quality Vocational Education and Training (VET) within the context of Batchelor Institute's role as Australia's leading First Nations Tertiary Education and Research provider.

VET Lecturer positions within Batchelor Institute are aligned to the IBSA VET Practitioner Capability Framework adapted to the Batchelor Institute context[1].

The Senior Lecturer of Visual Arts & Indigenous Media Units, is responsible for managing accountabilities for relevant student outcomes, Finance and Human Resources, VET Training Products and relevant projects underpinned by the Batchelor Institute Both-ways principles of practice and improving individual and team performance in the Domains of Work and Work Skills.

In addition, the Senior Lecturer of Visual Arts & Indigenous Media Units, will assist the Director of Further Education – Arts and Humanities, with planning, implementing evaluating and reporting VET requirements.

Detailed Statement of Key Responsibilities and Performance Standards

Domains of Work Lecturer C

1.1  Teaching

·  Review relevant theoretical framework about learning and teaching in VET and apply and model the use of theories in VET teaching practice.

·  Provide leadership and recognised expertise in learning design and implementing the Batchelor Institute Learning and Teaching Framework across varying contexts and a range of delivery methods.

·  Apply and model a broad range of facilitation approaches, lead others to develop their facilitation techniques across a range of delivery contexts.

·  Negotiate with learners and stakeholders to identify measures of success and evaluation strategy; develop and implement tools and techniques to evaluate program outcomes, report on evaluation outcomes and recommend system improvements.

1.2  Assessment

·  Lead others to interpret and apply relevant theory to improve assessment practice, undertake research to inform assessment practice.

·  Design and implement continuous improvement strategies to ensure assessment tools meet industry and system requirements.

·  Consult with stakeholders to design holistic assessment approaches, lead quality assessment processes, explore opportunities for innovation and improvements in assessment practices.

·  Coordinate industry validation, critically evaluate validation outcomes, and implement improvements to assessment strategies.

1.3  Industry and Community Engagement

·  Negotiate with industry bodies, communities and stakeholders to ensure that learning programs meet or exceed expectations and that teaching and assessment practices reflect current industry trends and community values and aspirations.

·  Demonstrate leadership in professional and community networks and provide advice and guidance about industry developments and changes.

·  Develop and implement approaches to build team vocational competence and industry currency.

·  Work with enterprises to design learning and development strategies that address strategic direction and community values and aspirations.

1.4  Systems and Compliance

·  Ensure team compliance with standards for RTOs 2015 and relevant legislation.

·  Build sustainable relationships with key stakeholders to improve teaching and assessment practice and build practitioner capability.

·  Provide leadership about training packages and accredited courses and guides implementation.

·  Review and create policies to guide practice and ensure compliance; ensure team members keep up to date records of learner progress and outcomes and manage team to use Batchelor Institute electronic management systems.

·  Encourage staff to generate and share new and different approaches; advocate for change; lead team to plan and implement digital learning modes; lead team to plan.

1.10  Team work and Communication

·  Mentor team to foster learner engagement, retention and success; communicate persuasive messages to a range of audiences.

2.  Essential selection criteria

Applicants must demonstrate they are able to undertake the responsibilities of the position as contained in the position overview and are able to meet the following Key Selection Criteria:

2.1  Qualifications and Licensing

The successful candidate must possess a relevant 3 or 4 year degree and a relevant postgraduate qualifications combined with 5 or more years Industry/professional/vocational experience. Relevant VET qualifications will also be an asset.

The successful applicant will hold:

·  The minimum vocational teaching qualification Certificate IV in Training and Assessment TAE40110 (or equivalent) and/or Diploma or higher level qualification in adult education.

·  The Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card).

2.2  Domains of Work

Demonstrated significant knowledge, leadership and management experience in Vocational Education and Training, including student progression that will enable vocational training and education programs in the relevant teaching areas to be researched, prepared, delivered, assessed, evaluated and administered in a variety of contexts, including remote contexts and workplace delivery, with reference to the above Domains of Work requirements.

2.3  Work Skills

Demonstrated knowledge of and high level personal and interpersonal skills for leading team members to achieve outcomes within an Aboriginal Vocational and Training context as per the above Work Skill requirements.

2.4  Working with Aboriginal people

Well-developed knowledge of the social, political, historical and cultural environments of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as relevant to Vocational Education and Training, and demonstrated highly developed capacity to work effectively and communicate appropriately with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, communities, organisations and staff members.

2.5  VET Management and Administration

Demonstrated significant management experience and leadership in: Training products, Finance, HR and project management; contributing to the development of VET management and administrative policies, procedures and business rules; and in leading teams to comply with these.

2.6  NT Context

Must be able to undertake travel throughout the Northern Territory by land, sea or air (eg. in a light aircraft), possess a Northern Territory ‘C’ class driver’s licence with experience driving on unformed roads, and be prepared to stay in a range of accommodation and in various environmental settings available to the Batchelor Institute staff.

2.7  Legislation and regulatory requirements

Knowledge and experience of leading implementation and compliance with relevant legislation and regulatory requirements (insert any specific requirements)

·  A Staff Skills Matrix must be completed and endorsed by the Institute prior to an employment contract being offered.
