Agenda/Minutes

Introduction by OA, Scope & Impact description

Quorum met (all voting members present)

Mentioned members listed as voting members and alternates

OA asked for Volunteers for secretary position:JustinKauffman volunteered

Action: Send out doodle to schedule best time for MTG meeting during ASHRAE

Volunteer Program SubC chair – Vikrant Aute

Volunteer Research SubC chair – Barbara Minor

OA will send the procedure manual for MTG to members, summarized here:

-MTG has finite term

-Dissolve once goals are reached

-Coordinate TC/TG activities

-Preferred meeting time is before ASHRAE meetings via conference/web

-Membership has 2 categories (Voting and Alternate)

-Voting Members are appointed by TC Chairs

-Alternates are appointed by MTG chair

-No limit on consecutive terms served

-Only 1 voting member person from each TC/TG

-Alternates should participate, but can vote only when Voting member is absent

-MTGs SubC will coordinate activities between TC/TG and not actually create program/research.

Interests

Barbara – Low GWP interest, chair of other research committees, would want to see coordinated effort between various groups and TCs involved.

Debra –SSPC34 – Safety classification and nomenclature, work under TC 3.1. Clarification on information need for identification/classification of new fluids

Xudong –AHRI –Have multiple effort in terms of low GWP fluids, material compatibility etc. Coordinate activities, share information.Adding LGWPR related RTARs to ASHRAE plans

Karim AHRI – co-funding of LWGPR related projects

Justin, TC 8.5 –Liquid to Ref. HT: Guidance on promising fluids where additional HT research would be valuable to the industry, clear ID of promising fluids, for near term application for HT research

Dave TC 2.5 –global climate change, interested in coordinating activities, would want to participate in the IIR working party on LCCP? Make sure there is no duplicate effort.

Mike Vaughn – just monitoring at this time

Joseph TC 3.4 – Lubricants – big impact of LGWPR, change in properties, involved in miscibility/solubility aspects, fluid compatibility, will be involved in research and program

Daniel TC 10.1 –Industrial refrigeration (NH3, CO2) –looking for support on moving projects on natural refrigerants through RAC; deal with supermarket and custom systems; interested in alternatives to R22; more focus on research; 10.7 has an RTAR on reduced charged refrigerants.

Ken Schultz TC 1.3 – similar to Justin but extended to all kinds of HXs

Vikrant Aute – TC 8.4 -air to refrigerant HX, standards, testing

OA – Was hoping for more interest in LCCP modeling. Yunho Hwang (UMD) needs to participate on this MTG as a liaison for the IIR LCCP working party.

Motion

Motion made to do so (YH MTG participation) – Barbara moved, Vikrant seconded.

Motion passed, 5/0/1 (CNV) [Yes/No/Abstain]

Q/A

Barbara – Question to Mike V. - Is there a central listing of projects.

Mike V – Research implementation plan on ASHRAE website, approved RTARS, TRPs etc, and comments. There is a spreadsheet with documents ( Also has a list of active projects (abstract, contractor etc.). Generally updated after each ASHRAE meeting.

Barbara – May make a spreadsheet of projects of our own and keep track of it.

Barbara – Question about Membership. OA response - Some members are not voting members, due to the delay in adding names to roster and the timing of MTG approval.

Justin Kauffman – LCCP side of things, get members from equipment/machines committees. Centrifugal machines (8.2), 8.1

Vikrant Aute – What is the role of Program SubC? Can propose mini-conference?

Barbara – NIST has a conference coming up in October 2012, it is sponsored by ASHRAE. It is an open conference. Perhaps we should plan for 2013 Summer.

Action: Vikrant Aute – Will find deadlines for future conferences for publications from MTG.

A motion to adjourn was moved by Barbara, seconded by Justing and passed, 5/0/1 (CNV) [Yes/No/Abstain] at 4:50 pm.
