 Symphonic Band 

Miss Jaques is so happy to have you in Band again!!!!

We are going to have a very fun filled year (even more fun than last year )!!!

We have a lot of returning things and many new things planned for this year. One new thing is that you have to have all of your band supplies before you can play an instrument. This will include regular supplies and instrument supplies. Plus, just like last year you will be graded daily on having ALL of these supplies so it is very important that you get them as soon as possible(these are the exact same supplies as last year, so hopefully you held on to them like we talked about at the end of last year).

The due date and daily grade for these supplies will start Monday, August 25th, but if you have them on Friday, August 22ndyou will receive 500 extra credit bonus points!!!  Plus, remember the sooner you get all of your supplies the sooner you will get an instrument.

You can find all of your supplies listed on the back of this letter.

Remember, one of the requirements for being in Symphonic Band is to attend after school Symphonic Band practices on Tuesdays. These Tuesday practices will start on Tuesday, August 26th from 4:00-5:30 pm (there will not be a YMCA bus at this time, so you will need a ride home or if you walk or bike that is fine). For this first practice we will be getting to know one another, so please bring a snack/dessert item to share.

Another important item to think about is purchasing/renting your own instrument, if you don’t already have one. We have grown even larger this year and all students that use a school instrument will be sharing with approximately 4-5 other band students. In general, students that play the flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, and trombone usually have their own instrument since those instruments are priced lower. Music stores even offer a rent to own program where you can make little payments monthly that will go towards owning the instrument. If you are not able to purchase/rent your own instrument you will be able to use a school owned instrument, but you will have to share with approximately 4-5 students.

Also, Miss Jaques can only recommend renting/purchasing an instrument from a music store (recommended stores listed on back). If an instrument is rented/ purchased from a music store then it can be repaired. There are a lot of “cheaper” instruments out there that once they are broke they CANNOT be fixed, which leads to a useless instrument. Also, sometimes instruments that are not from a music store will not play correctly making it very, very hard for your child to be able to play and sound good. If you have any questions about renting/purchasing an instrument please feel free to contact Miss Jaques.
